Cam belt or chain??
« on: February 10, 2013, 09:28:28 »
Morning Strommers,
Today's question....
My 2008 V with 1800 miles on the clock, should I be contemplating having the belts replaced (or is it a chain)?
Also, can you tell me what the service intervals are for the belt (or chain) please?
 :ty:

chain x 2 (one for each cylinder)
I think Juvecu has the originals fitted and is on over 100k miles.

mines on 37k and I'm not looking to do them anytime soon.

The cams on the 1000 use both chains and gears. It is a very reliable system and only bettered by the all gear driven cams like on Honda's VFR750/800, and no scheduled maintenance is required after initial installation at the factory. The only time the cam chains might need checking would in the event of a problem with the tensioning system, which I've never heard of, or an engine strip and rebuild for some other reason. So don't worry about it. All that needs checking is the valve clearances every 14,000 miles.
