The silicone won't stick for long on the rubber but it sticks quite well to the metal. Put some  in the grooves of the circular part in one area so it makes frame contact when installed. It will stick to the frame and create a mechanical hold on the rubber because of the grooves. I can twist mine a bit but they don't come out by themselves. I can work on the swingarm pivot if needed and just push the rubbers back in afterward because the mechanical hold is still present.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

I siliconed them to my Vee but I've still rubbed the frame above it so they'll need paint at some point.
