F1 c40 error code
« on: January 30, 2013, 14:24:26 »
Hi all
My bike is a k7 twin spark 650 model.

I have the f1 warning light coming up showing C 40 which is the ISC,idle speed control valve.

When the bike has been stood for a few days without been started the bike starts and runs rough I turn the engine off after a minute and back on and the problem has dissapeared and I can go out for the day on it without further problems.

I would be grateful for your ideas and thoughts, could it be the plugs need changing? they haven't been done for a long time maybe 18,000 m !

Also can someone tell me if I need four of the same spark plugs or are the top ones different to the bottom ones?

It's definitely not the plugs. They are good for well over 20,000 miles anyway. A C40 only involves the ISC valve. It may be sticking or needing a reset. Here is the reset procedure.

1) Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
2) Remove the seat.
3) Put the bike in dealer mode. http://www.vstrom.info/Smf/index.php/topic,7061.0.html
4) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
5) Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
6) Then, wait more than 5 seconds.
The ISC valve automatically is set at the PRE-SET position.
7) Take the bike out of dealer mode.

A reset only clears the code if it was there due to the idle speed being off. If there is a problem with the ISC valve itself or the connections to it, that needs to be fixed.

Is the isc something that's servicable at home, could it just need cleaning ? A friend of mine said it could be the throttle butterflys getting stuck what's your thoughts on that ?

Stuck butterflies would stick the throttle. I do not know of anyone fixing an ISC valve, or even of any being replaced.
