How far do you lean?
« on: January 10, 2013, 20:13:54 »
After fitting a new Anakee2 rear a 3 weeks ago the roads have been a bit wet to put it through its paces. However this morning I managed a spin on nice dry roads and wow came back with hardly any 'chicken strips' at all on the back. It amazes me how the Strom can be pitched over and still feel planted. Tyres help of course. How about you blokes, do you punish the old girl a bit on the right bit of road  :) ?

When it's dry, I do like to put the anakees through their paces. When the pegs scrape I know I'm pretty much on the limit.  :auto-dirtbike:

You might as well try and get your money's worth from your tyres.....

This time of year, commuting in the dark on dodgy roads I leave a good margin of safety, but during the summer I will touch down the pegs on occasion.
Now on a Super Tenere having put 64k miles on a 2011 DL650

I have noticed I use all of the Anakee's tread which I suspect is due to the fairly shallow profile of the tyres. My previous tyre of choice was the Avon Distanzia which has a more 'pointy' profile and you struggle to get to the edge with them. The Avon's turn in much faster than Anakee's and are a more sporty tyre, in a dual sport type of way.

There are chicken strips on my TWs but on the right day I do throw it about a bit.

In my younger days (somewhere between 'olden days' and 'yore') I had to have the centre stand on my XS250 repaired after grinding half of the foot bar away.......
No bike at present.......

I regularly get the pegs down (anakee 2's)  in fact coming back over the borders on the A68 returning from the simmer dim rally in June with the wife on pillion I was leaning over far enough for the wife  to complain the toes of her boots were scraping the Tarmac.

I scrape the Moto Agora bash plate all the time, and there is very little chicken strip on my Anakee's but at this time of year I'm a little more cautious.

The mrs has also complained when I've got her boots on the road.  :shy:

just before I changed the rear, most of my miles are commuting so the center of the tread goes down rapidly compared to the edge. but I try to use all the tyre when I can.

I had nothing touchdown in the 2000 miles I did before packing it away for the winter.. I did throw it into a bend on the B660 and felt the front start to move away from me though so more confidence needed I think.. I tend to hang off a lot though, (sportsbike rider here) keeps the bike more upright and allows for faster corner speed.. Doesn't feel right hanging off a vstrom but old habits die hard..

I had the pegs touchdown on my 1200 Tiger Explorer test ride though, I kept that quiet when I took it back..

my wife has said a few times her foot has scratched along the road.  I didn't think a pillion could scrape their boots until she showed me the marks.

When I ride mountain twisties I have a habit of turning my toe down to feel for the limit. I'm not so keen on scraping footpegs, I always think "what if it got caught in a pot hole?"

This happens. I felt that, but it didn't upset the bike at all.

That's funny, I'm better at rights too. Maybe because I'm right-handed?
