Gaitors to front forks
« on: January 08, 2013, 18:39:06 »
Has anyone managed to fit rubber gaitors to the front forks to protect them?  I'm thinking of finding some to fit them to my glee.

I have Rancho RS1952 boots installed. Since I have a fork brace on a lowered bike. I cut off the bottom at the third pleat to sit on the brace. No brace - no cut. Brace on a non lowered bike, 2nd pleat. Be aware the fork travel may be reduced slightly.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

Is it a major job to put the gaiters on, do you have to remove the forks? Please excuse my lack of knowledge.

Just be aware the bolts on the Glee forks that hold the fenders on are attached with thread locker. Just applying more force will spin the steel plates in the plastic mudguard and damage the mudguard. The plates have to be kept from spinning. I left the mudguard attached and removed the entire front end after taking off the wheel and calipers to install the boots. If that feels like too much work, wrap around fork protectors from NOJ are an alternative. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NOJ-Fork-Guar ... 0567873040

Thanks for that Greywolf. I think that may have to wait until I find someone who knows what to do. Or give guidance.

Cheers Cabra, I've asked a question on this (sorry if over complicating this just don't want to cock it up) on the thread you posted, can you have a squiz and let me know the answer?

Might be worth buying the gaitors and taking to a local bike shop , they should do it in a hour at the most .
