...technically not legal (unless you've got headlight washers and self levelling) but just unplug them for mot time :-)

Tricky one really.  I suspect you are right, but the laws are worded for cars so who really knows...

The above regs are for Daytime Running Lights, not headlights :)

This does however

Yeah, probably not legal at all then :)

Mind you, that new Ducatti has LED headlights, and no washers/levelers...

Haven't seen one with the headlights on yet, as for legal, if it meets EU type approval then it is.

righteo time for me to ask more silly questions.... :shy:

got my delivery of vvme hid kit there today.

I am looking at the "wiring harness controller" as it is labelled and off it there is a number of connections.

there is:
1 x  "original halogen lamp connecter socket"
1 x wire with 30amp fuse and battery connecter end
2 x power socket for the ballast and a wire with another battery terminal end.

now......... :wtf:

1.   there is only one "original halogen lamp connecter socket so do I just plug that into any one of the 2 connecters on the bike loom?

2.   does the wire with a 30amp fuse half way down it have to be connected directly to the battery as the lead is very short if it does....

3.  what's with the wire that has a bettery connecter end? this is coming off the wire that supplies the power to the ballast.

prob silly questions, however I never thought I needed to connect wires to the battery...unless I'm missing something

1. Yes, either connector is fine.
2. It's best connected to the battery. A fuse block is also fine if you have one. If you need to add wire, add it between the fuse and relay as the fuse protects the wiring and you want as little wire between the fuse and the battery as possible. If you have a fuse block, you cut the fuse off the wiring and use the same value fuse in the block as was in the wire.
3. You'll notice the wire is black. Red is positive power and black is negative earth. It's a car kit and car headlights are far apart so each light has its own earth connector. It's also why the battery leads are so short. You can shorten the wiring between the ballasts if you want as well as connect the two black wires with eye terminals to the same negative battery or fuse block terminal. Just don't change the high voltage wiring between the ballasts and lamps.

as ever thanks very much greywolf.

I might hold off on the installation then as another member on here is is making a wiring harness that is similiar to eastern beavers. I can connect it up to the fusebox on the new harness as I will also be connecting other charging points, lights etc via the fusebox.

with regards to the eyes terminals that are beside the power cable to the ballast. those wires are only 6 inches long. so I will prob need to extend them if I'm to connect them to the negative terminal of the fuse block.

It sounds like you know how to handle things at this point.

Well, you asked the right questions and got answers to them at least.

very true, hopefully get the wiring harness soon. then its time too:

- Install HID kit.
- Install LED sidelights.
- Install front bike vis bullets on handguards.
- USB charger + cigarette charger up front (on one of Richland Rick's shelf poss)
- cigarette charger under the seat.
- and a few other non electrical jobs that need done!

any ideas on how to make it easy to convery back to halogen bulbs for MOT time? is it just a matter of pulling out the HID bulbs and putting the halogen ones back in as all the stock wiring is there and your not cutting any of the stock wiring. Is this correct?

That's about it. I have the ballasts and the wiring between ballasts and lamps cable tied also. I would need to cut some ties to remove the lamps and wires.

Yeh was thinking that. was wondering if they woud say anything or not. I'm sure it would be a 5 min job taking the hid out and halogen in. just leave all the hid kit in situ and just remove the bulbs.

Mine passed its last MOT like that. To be honest, if you mount everything nicely, you can barely see it with all the plastic fitted.

advice needed again please greywolf. I am going to locate the EB PC8 underneath the seat, and as a result the negative wires won't be long enough as it is only 20cm long. do I cut both terminal ends off and solder the wires together and then extend 1 wire down the bike to the PC8....OR do I just solder a wire onto each terminal and run 2 wires down the length of the bike to the PC8?

There is no need to run two wires. Just connect the two black wires and run one wire from that connection to the PC8 negative terminal.
