Paint flaking off rad in big lumps
« on: September 11, 2012, 22:47:44 »
Anyone recommend me a good treatment? there are large bits of paint flaking off the Aly rad tank on the left side. I will live with it until the winter when I'm sorry to say, I hang up my leathers for most of the dark cold months and I will strip it then for re-paint as part of a mega service.  ah, but what to repaint it with?

Bike lives a charmed life in a heated garage so I'm in no rush, it won't get any worse but it does spoil the bike a little.

Cheers

Al

I use black satin (matt-ish) Hammerite paint to deal with minor chips and flakes.
Sticks to metal like glue, is very tough and has some corrosion inhibitor in it.
Spraying small areas isn't often possible so I dab the affected spot with a sponge pad or an old toothbrush couple of times, an hour or so apart. Loose debis needs to be scaped off first of course.

Yes, I began scraping the loose bits off and have an almost bare rad tank now

I will use the stuff you mention. At least it will cure a bit faster than it normally does by being on the rad.

Cheers

Al.

Been painting my stove pipe with Wickes heatproof metal spray (matt).  Would leave a nicer finish than hammerite.

A disgrace to biking...
