I have. Twice.
Fast. Very fast.
Comfortable. A bit more leg room than my wee ( I am about 1M96, or 6'5" if you prefer, and athletically built with just a hint of too many cakes).
It handled well too. The steering is quick.
I came away thinking that I would never use anywhere near as much of the power as it offered, but that might just be because I have never ridden anything so fast before.

Actually, if you look for posts by Cearnshaw who 'defected' to a V1000 from a wee, he has written some very helpful and informative reviews recently about his V1000 experiences. Well worth looking for them. He is very impressed by the bike.

Negatives I have heard of:
Fuel gauge is unreliable, as is the trip computer for range.
Range, if pushed hard.
Vibes at some RPMs
MC press moan about dodgy forks. Nobody else seems to have any criticisms in that department though.
Accessories seem a bit thin  on the ground

I think for the money you get  a lot of motorcycle, and it's good motorcycle as well.

Starting to see a few of these knocking about, suggesting they're a decent enough bike. They look like they need a much bigger screen mind but perhaps that's just me...

further reports on range (I see Jilljoy has now jumped and is on the Versys 1000 forum)

500 very quick miles last weekend with a group of mates, it returned 52mpg
Not as good as the 650 Wee but good enough for me
You soon get used to the power, overtakes are a breeze

Yes I've jumped ship.the strom couldn't handle the thrashing.
If anyone says that an engine is bullet proof one more time I will go mad.
I have now blown a zx6 ,a xt350 tt,then the strom took ill ,so she had to go.
The only bikes I had lately that we're OK were fire blade rr4 and triumph trophy 1200 and gas gas ec250 which seized because of a carb blockage but not costly to repair

I sat , just sat , on a 2011 Versys 650 for the first time today , courtesy of Oldie :)

It seemed a good bit skinnier than the strom , had a lighter feel on it. Oldie says they are the same weight on paper but when you pick it up , the Versys definitely feels lighter. The finish on everything seems good enough.

I only sat on it though :)

I agree here too. The screen on oldies was a bit bigger than standard but was still tiny in comparison to the good old Vs.

Why do you break so many bikes? My dad has had his R6 since new when he got it in 1998 and it would still be going strong if not for the fact he never replaced the damn front sprocket!  :shy: The plonker!

Lessons learnt the hard way!

Bike engines are particularly hard to break on the machines themself , which brings me to the question , maybe its you riding style and not the bike that is making it fail?

I think if I had to ride everywhere with my balls out I'd be going a lot slower than I do now. And they'd be bloody cold
