Trade-in value
« on: July 06, 2012, 12:25:15 »
Went to a local bike dealer in Scotland yesterday, was in for a we coffee & look around etc. I asked would they give me an idea of what my 2008 V-Strom DL1000GT is worth as trade-in value etc?

I've my bike sitting like a new pin, in MINT condition with 11,000 miles etc... They came up with a value of £4,000, shock/horror I thought! They would probably selling it for £5,400 in their showroom etc....

Think I'll keep my prize possession a while longer.

I'd be happy with 4k for mine....I have a dealer trade in of 3k pegged for my 07 GT, just 1 year older, but it has over 20,000 on the clocks (Oh, the horror, the abuse!  How can the machine stand to be ridden soooo much!). Likewise, very clean, always looked after, ACF50'd to the hilt.

Still, I only paid 5k for it in 2009, so its lost £500 a year.  :angry-tappingfoot:

Compared to my last bike, a BMW R1100RT...trade in at 69,000 miles was £1800, £700 less than the purchase price, had it just over 2 years & did a similar mileage per year. Of course, if I factor in the astronomic BMW repair costs it comes to around £1200 per year lost.

Repair costs on the Vee so far? 1 clutch slave cylinder seal...£5.26.
No. of AA recovery trucks required? BMW = 3, Vee = 0.

that's a realistic price from the trade,I don't think you will get much more . Wait till september and see how much less would be on offer :bawl:

You only "lose" value if you trade it in so the obvious answer is to just keep it :neen:
