I'm going to speak up for statistics - everybody slags it off and quotes Churchill (lies, damned lies etc).

Statistics is just arithmetic. Complex arithmetic granted. But if you ask the right question and measure the samples properly you always get the right answer. When you deliberately ask a skewed question or measure the sample wrongly then you get the wrong answer.

Statistics does not tell lies. Liars tell lies. Then they use deliberately wrong sums to hide the truth.

you can't sit on the fence where Marmite and Caramac are concerned, you either love them (I do ) or hate them.

Now I have no problem with someone who tastes something then says "no, not for me I don't like it"  but I can't stand people who say "I'm not trying it I know I won't like it"

How can they Know,, winds me up, so it does..

I loved Caramac, haven't seen it for years! I'd forgotten about it. Do you think it still exists?

I've never tasted Marmite.

Yes in an ideal world run by honest and moral people and governments. However statistics can and are used to distort and hide truth and mislead people. UK governments have for years changed the way all manner of data crucial to running the country e.g. unemployment figures, inflation, cost of living are collected and processed to enable them to justify increasing taxes and/or cutting public spending. The maths may be correct but the data and it's interpretation can be skewed and misrepresented to justify anything our masters want to do. A plague be on the lot of them.

At 31, do I qualify as a moaning old git? Not sure, I'm certainly starting to feel like one.

Many years ago, I broke my pay as you go mobile phone and needed a replacement. At the time I barely used it, since this was still in the days when people arranged to meet people on a specific day at a specific place and at a specific time, and then actually showed up instead of sending text messages constantly to re-arrange venue or advise that they're 'almost there'. This meant that I would spend maybe 5 or 10 pounds a month on credit at the most. Contracts started at about 20 pounds a month and therefore, made no sense for my typical usage.

Anyway, I went into 'phone 4 U' (txt spk? in a shop name? really?) saw a phone I liked for 35 quid and was approached by a salesman who asked what I was looking for. I explained my situation, said I liked the look of this one, but were there any others he would recommend. At this point, he asked about how much I was spending each month, and proceeded to tell me how I would save money if I got a contract phone. I pointed out that it would actually cost me twice as much and therefore I wasn't interested, unless he could find a contract for 5 pounds a month, which he confirmed he couldn't. Again, I asked if there were any other handsets he would recommend at no more than 50 quid, and pay as you go only, and again, he tried to sell me a contract phone. At this point I said "I'm going to ask the same question again, and if you try to sell me a contract phone, I will walk out of the shop and buy nothing". Sure enough, he completely failed to listen, so I walked straight out the door and round the corner to carphone warehouse instead.

I've been back to phones 4 U more recently to discuss an upgrade and had a very similar experience. They have absolutely no interest in what you want, and constantly push you to buy something more expensive that you neither want nor need. It really is the most irritating shop I have ever visited!

I'm inclined to agree, however I think this sketch fits into the 3%

People who flick fag ash and throw their dog end out of the window of their car's.

Parents who don't keep their kids under control in public places.  don't care how they behave at home, that doesn't affect anyone other than the parents.  But kids running around out of control in supermarkets and shopping centres, that's a pain.  Brings a smile to my face when they fall over or run into something hard though :)

La Kraven

If you post was aimed at me, I am actually a parent, two boys who now 22 and 28.  Both in employment as tradesmen and both bikers too.

They were brought up to be respectful of others possessions and others space.  They were also taught to give their time to others, both being youth leaders for a number of years.  Also taught that no one owns them a living and that it is important to be in work and support yourself through life.
They were also brought up to have good manners and and to say please and thank-you.

The above values seem to be missing in many children's upbringing of late, with no respect for others at all, often ignoring their parents requests and disrespecting others property.  Even in schools teachers are being attacked by those they are trying to teach.

I am all for protecting children from abusers and others that would do them harm, but its gone to far now, with little or no consequences for their actions.

Rant over

People who fail to understand that you're different to them and who then can't comprehend why you  don't follow 'the generic mould' of how they think you should be.

TalkTalk broadband support. Truly shit.

4 weeks on they admit there's a fault, told me I would be migrated to a different backbone, told me this was now on hold, then told me it's going ahead, can't pass me through to the migrations team at 1650 on a Friday because they've finished for the day, can't escalate me to anyone above first line support (they can log a call back for me for a supervisor to call me back within 24-48 working hours) and can't tell me when the migration might happen. Truly truly utterly f*cking shite.

I went with TalkTalk when they first started their broadband. All went well until my phone line developed a fault. I had let TalkTalk take it over from BT. After 3 months with no phone line and endless calls from other lines and my mobile to their "customer support" who just fobbed me off each time -had to go through the whole thing every time I phoned as nothing from previous calls was logged on their system, I ended up going back to BT and getting them to come and fix the line, took about 4 days. To cap it all TalkTalk then threatened to take me to court as I had stopped the direct debit. Wouldn't touch them with a bargepole, would sooner use semaphore.

I am with Talk Talk (and was formally with Tiscalli) and must admit when things do go wrong they are a pain.  Once you accept their total package like I have its also a pain to switch to an alternative supplier.

Must say though that they have been OK over the last 4 years or so
