Solas tape and more
« on: June 11, 2012, 19:23:34 »
Hi all,
Just fitted solas tape behind the red panels on my givi top box. Let there be light and lots of it too, this stuff is the dogs xollockx, bike can now probably be seen from the space station. Also fitted mirror extenders from Damon Twooks, just the ticket. Lastly covered all the bolt heads etc etc with ACF50. Does a nice job on the black frame and plastics too.

Hi Jeff

Bought the SOLAS tape off Flea Bay About £3.99 + p&p for 50mm x 1mtr piece.
Description
Reflexite FD1403 retro reflective tape  length 1 meter by 50mm wide. (Just enough for an E370 top box)
This tape conforms to S.O.L.A.S (safety of life at sea)  IMO (international maritime organisation)  resolution a.658(10) type II. It is also wheel marked and DOT approved.

Its sticky enough to remove your fingerprints whilst trying to apply it

Took the Givi box apart and simply stuck this stuff over the white plasticised sheets (non reflective believe it or not!) which are located behind the red lens covers. once installed glows like a good one.

** I have installed it behind the original red lenses on the Givi  **

Not sure what kind of reflective standards or limits there are for bikes but its a hundred times more reflective than it was and I'd rather been seen than squashed. If they work out to be too reflective, just reverse or reinstall the original white sheets (don't bin em).
