Soft Pannier question.
« on: June 04, 2012, 23:20:34 »
Probably a basic question, but I guess you don't know what you don't know.
If I buy some soft panniers, do I need to change the rack on the back of my Wee?
I just can't see how they would stay away from the rear wheel, exhaust etc.
I currently have a Suzuki rack and topbox fitted but this will not really be big enough for a weekend away.

I've got a set of Givi tubular pannier racks on my Vee. I normally use E21 hard panniers for every day use, but swap them for larger soft panniers when camping. The soft panniers sit nicely against the racks, keeping them away from spinning or hot bits.

You can buy stand-offs for your soft panniers to rest against, but the Givi racks aren't that dear (around £100 for a set last time I looked) and also provide loads of bungie points for your other luggage. It also means your bike is ready for any Givi Monokey hard pannier - a selling point even if you never intend to have hard luggage.
