Running a wee on leaded petrol?
« on: May 27, 2012, 18:27:21 »
Hi,  My mate & I are taking our wee's from Moscow to St petersburg in July & according to travel guides we are going to struggle finding unleaded fuel in small towns & villages, do you know if we can run them on full fat petrol OK? has anyone had any experience? is it likely to bugger anything up or bring up any fault codes etc?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Ken.

All V-Stroms have catalytic convertors. Lead will clog them and the exhaust won't work properly, keeping the engine from breathing. An aftermarket exhaust that had no cat would be recommended.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

Yes as Greywolf said , it will feck the cats up and maybe worse . Either de-cat the exhaust or go aftermarket ...

I find it hard to believe Suzuki would make more than one exhaust for different markets though I guess it's possible. Here's a pic of a small catalytic element in the pipe at the front of the can. It got much larger in 2007. The pic is from a 2006 Wee with more at http://www.raceratb.com/austin/car/vstrom/

Hmm, you're probably right, never considered it would be a small one inside the end can.

Russians pretty much drive the same cars as us these days. Is unleaded fuel really a problem?
