Tank removal (yes, I know .....)
« on: May 16, 2012, 11:07:14 »
###  ### Agggghhhhhhhhhh!!!! ###  ###

Phew! That's better. Got it out of my system now ......

Bloody Norah, what a palaver! Tank removal wouldn't have been quite so bad if I hadn't dropped every other bloody screw on the floor and then watched it roll somewhere inaccessible .....

Who designs these things?  They should be taken out and smacked hard with a wet fish.

Sheessh!

I agree about the screws, and the little clip popper things. I lost a few of those lil Buggers , took ages to find too. The actual removal of the tank I found quite easy once I held the fairings open.
I'm sane, honestly. . . I got a certificate to prove it!

The first time does take a bit of working out ( there's always one screw or fixing that gets forgotten/ not seen!)
But next time it'll be so easy & take half the time.......probably!

Heh! So that's where the scales of justice comes from!?

You might as well order some of the poppers now, if your tanks going to be on and off, they don't last forever!

It is written that you will lose/break one popper every time.

I know I have had the tank off 4 times by counting the popper holes... :angry-tappingfoot:

After about ten times, it becomes second nature.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

And I picked up four gen Suzuki replacements this weekend, £1.25 each.  HOW MUCH?  Yup, next time I sweep the garage floor and put down lining paper to catch the little sods before I start work, and I stop to search for each one that I drop.

Any leads on after-market replacements, as they're not safety-critical, would be welcomed.

There was a posting on here a while back that had some links to cheaper alternatives. Try searching for fasteners or something like that.
