spare wires
« on: March 30, 2012, 21:31:24 »
hi all have put some led builds in the tail lights .
And in the proses found 4 wires with a white plug capped off 2 live with ignition on.
and a single wire witch is live all the time these 5 wires all come from the rear light fittings
what are thay used for if anything.
thinking might us one off the live wires(with ign on) to run the relay for my bits.

That is not a stock connector. Maybe a previous owner installed it to run additional lights.

Wrong again. :groan:

It's for the ejector seat. Don't cut the red wire! :shock:  :scared-shocked:

I think its a spare on UK spec., I used it on my sons to power up Autocom, Sat Nat, Road Pilot etc.

It was a good find & saved chopping wiring looms about.

I have an E-28 (Euro) wiring diagram and there is nothing like that on it.

 the live all the time wire in picture 1 is black with a Gray bands no cover on the end
and the other 4 are black with Gray spots with a cover on the end
it was a bit bright for the camera.

Those colors do not correspond with Suzuki wiring convention. I'll maintain somebody added that wiring after the bike left the factory.

Had my side cover off today and I also have that connector, so it must be factory fitted  :shrug:

that's interesting then wonder what they were meant for (pannier lights ) apart from the one that is live all the time.

Okay. I made some bad assumptions. There is a connector with all black wires in the diagram that I always thought was a grounding block. It isn't. The connector on one end goes to a B/W ground so I figured they all did. Not so. The one next it goes to O/Y which is ignition on hot from the #4 fuse. The next goes to O/W which feeds the ignition coils through the kill switch. The next goes to O/G which feeds the signals wires from the #5 fuse. The single one goes to R/W which is always hot. It's a diagnostic block. It would provide information on the state of the wiring harness before leaving the factory. It isn't supposed to be used to run anything, hence the lack of color coding. It's only supposed to be connected to a diagnostic tool that relies on connector position. Thanks for the education.

Ooh, so that could be 'live'* when the engine's running, rather than just when the ignition's on...

*'live' enough to work with a cap and a relay, that is.

I recently did some wiring for Ubique and measured voltages on that plug. I seem to recall that they weren't 12V feeds. Just double check before taking a live or something off it.

Oh aye, the one feeding/being fed by the coils will not be 12V by any stretch :)

I'd be feeding TTL signals into a small SoC, so I'd be doing levels and protection first anyway!

er, sorry yeah.

TTL = 5v digital signals
SoC = System on a Chip :)
