So if you modify the inner and outer spacers that way does the sprocket stays in the same place relative to the front sprocket?
The rear sprocket moves 2mm inwards. That's the only sure thing here. Most say that improves the alignment on their bikes. A minority says it does not. I don't know if such reports are due to manufacturing tolerance or user error in measurement but I suspect the latter. The suspicion by some is the DL1000 frame was originally designed for a 530 chain and changing to a 525 wasn't properly thought out. Maybe somebody with a 1000 can get out the laser alignment tools and write something more definitive.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.

I can make a list.  :)   Vee owners can do the same though. It's all about preferences.

All they have going for them is extra power and slightly better front suspension (which still isn't great.) Us Wee owners win on the rest :lala:

ps Although twin exhausts are sexier...

So would a 530 conversion cure the alignment issue? I just spotted this on ebay

If I was needing new sprockets and or chain, then why not go a bit further.

I've seen 530 conversion reports and all seem happy with it and it increased chain life dramatically. How much is attributable to alignment and how much is size I can't say.

I think my main objective here is to make the gear change smoother, so I'm undecided wether to spend a little to get the spacer from cymarc or to go all out and get a new 530 chain and sprocket set WITH a 43 tooth rear while I'm at it, to benifit from both better chain life, gearing and poss smoother gears.

Someone on here has done the 530 conversion and he was happy with it, I can 'see' his avatar, but can't remember his name, he's a friend of Mad Phil's. Name has "OO" and "X" in it, as you can see my photographic memory is very susceptible to RFI and EMI :sarc:

You can get that 'kit' you saw on eBay for a lot cheaper locally sourced and wouldn't run the risk of getting hit for import duty. Which sprockets are you going for, 17/43? Rather get a DID X-ring chain instead of an O-ring chain (as advertised there.)

All Vee models use a 17 teeth front sprocket and 41 teeth rear sprocket, but note that there seems to be some confusion about this as some claim it's a 42 rear sprocket. Check what you have on your bike at the moment before you order replacements.
All Vee models use a 112 link 525 chain.

Oh of course, locals the way to go or at least UK online. I'll do some pricing up but x ring 17/43 sounds like a plan.

Question - is there any known issues with fitting a 16T front sprocket?

17T front with 43T rear gives a +4.7% torque -4.7% top speed
Whereas
16T front with 41T rear gives a +5.9% torque -5.9% top speed
I'm leaning towards the 16T front for that little extra.

Beware of the front brake not working in first & second gears...........

Mainly cause your front tyre is seldom in contact with the road...!

I don't mean to degrade the moment, but I've heard bad thing about Renthal chains on several occasions. The sprockets are excellent though. Would be interesting if you could let us know what you think of the chain compared to others you've had before by the time you next replace it.

AS above. I've known of 2 snapped Renthal chains on a Vee. DO NOT use them. Buy a good quality DID chain or buy an original chain. Suzuki chains believe it or not are very good.
