Fitting a TRE
« on: February 29, 2012, 20:46:57 »
Has anyone fitted a 'TRE' to a (2008) V-Strom DL1000..? If so, have you noticed any (better/worse) improvements, or a waste of money?

Love to hear your views/thoughts/experience please, appreciated!

I fitted one to my '07 1000 and found it improved the low end running- not that I'd found it a problem anyway.  Just felt a bit smoother at low speeds in town in 2nd and 3rd gears.  On balance worth the money but you should really imform your insurance company as it is probably regarded as a performance mod.

I've been reading a few posts recently about TREs and no, not the type with leaves and branches  :)

My k5 vee has a flat spot around 3.5-4k revs where it runs shit, fairly standard so I'm led to believe. I do have aftermarket cans fitted but it was the same with the standard silencers.

I've been thinking a tweak with a yoshi box or a power commander was the only way to go but don't want the cost of the PC and the yoshi tweak might not fix it.

Has anyone suffered this issue and is a TRE likely to fix or at least alleviate this problem? Please share your experiences to help me spend more money on my bike  :)

See if the problem exists in fourth gear. Chances are it's a lean spot and will still be a problem in fourth. A TRE fools the ECM into "thinking" the tranny is always in 4th, the only unrestricted gear. If you have the problem in 4th, a fuel remap like a Yosh box or Power Commander can do can help that but a TRE really won't.

Thanks Greywolf, sensible advice. I'll try it in fourth but I have the feeling this happens in all gears. Out of interest, anyone know the tweak required with the Yosh box? If I go to the dealer I would like to be armed with some information rather than just leave it with them.

I recall it needs +5% to the Low TPS adjustment, but don't quote me on that. I think someone on here said that's all they had done to get it sorted. Search for it and if you can't find it let me know and I will see if I can dig it up myself, I'm lazy now :)

I had a look on Fleabay and they seem to only be from USA or Australia and various prices, which ones are you blokes buying and how much should I be looking to spend?

Either buy a GiPro gear indicator with inbuilt TRE or there is some sold on eBay for about £25 from a seller in Scotland that work. :thumb:

OK my TRE has arrived  :lala:  So where does it go, I'm guessing it's down near the water bottle as in the TL1000

If you take the seat off the connector can be found just under the rear of the fuel tank. I can be a bit fiddly to get at and seperate the existing plug and socket but once apart you just put the TRE into the loom and off you go.  I might be good to secure it with a cable tie to stop it moving around too much. You'll lose the O/D indication on the dash. The bike should run better low down and you may notice a bit more punch in the lower gears.

I ordered mine from exact place as 'mad phil's link via eBay, very impressed OK, smoother to ride in lower gears and seems to wind-out better up near magic red line, superb for under £26!

A cheap up-grade OK, well recommended!!!!

Itchy Just fitted the same TRE today as posted on What have you done thread. Is your fuel gauge flashing empty? Could get quite annoying.

Are you sure you didn't connect it in the fuel pump wiring instead of the gear position indicator wiring?
