First ride (or rather, an overnighter) for the year. I got to try out the new gadgets on the bike (Ogio TB2 tailbag, Nelson-Rigg tailbag and Peak Design phone holder).
The Ogio was a bit disappointing. I saw it on a Youtube video where Revzilla was "reviewing" it.
Here is my response to that page regarding my experiences with the Ogio TB2.
Based on this video I lashed out and bought the TB2 to replace an aging Ventura rack system. My first trip with it was over the weekend, away for two days.
Now, the bag itself looks to be decent quality and it accomodated my stuff for an overnighter. But, (there's always a "but", isn't there?), I had some issues with it, particularly with this RAM mount system.
I had problems getting it to latch in properly, often taking 2 or 3 attempts to lock it in place. On the first day's ride (about 6hrs), no problems. But the next morning, on the way home the bag unlatched itself and fell off. I reattached it, again having problems with it locking into place. About 2 hours later I felt it move around on me (it was on the pillion seat and resting against my back), then at 100 km/h (or around 60 mph) it came off again. Friend following saw it bouncing, stopped to collect it before a following car ran over it. Lucky that nothing breakable was in the bag.
This time I used cable ties to secure it to the bike.
The design is basicaly good except that I am of the view that the expanding zipper should be BELOW the opening zipper. The bag can take a fair bit of stuff and when you fill it the clothes or whatever you have in it, sit above the closing zipper. I found that when I had to get something out I had to be careful when opening it otherwise stuff would fall out. If the expanding zip was under the opening zip then the bag would be expanded with all the contents still in the bag.
Finally, the bag wobbles around a fair bit as the base plate which you strap down to the seat, frame or whatever, isn't very stable. I wonder if that was causing the bag to detach from the RAM mount.
I'll continue to use it, after all, it can hold my gear for an overnighter and I paid $260 AUD for it. But I'll ensure that the bag is secured to the bike using bungie straps (colloquially, here in Australia we call them "ocky" straps or short for octopus straps as the original ones came in a set of 4 straps on a steel ring).
