Found a few hours spare in our busy schedule  so as the sun was (almost) shining had a ride out on the bike.
Stopped just up the road at The Secret Diner (Sudbury prison) for breakfast. Very nice & cheap for a decent plate of food. Then onto Mappleton to put some flowers on my dad's grave, then Monyash for cake.
Close to 90 miles by the time we'd taken a few 'detours' there and back.
For anyone interested the breakfast was £5 (Deb had fish & chips, also £5)
We couldn't manage a full slice of Monyash cake so went for the lighter option.

Never heard of the secret diner, do you have to be an inmate.
We're often in the Hulland Ward area visiting folk.

No, you don't have to be an inmate  :) although they do the cooking & serving. The 'cafe' is just outside the prison gates. There are car parks but often fill up, parking in a layby or on the road just before you turn towards the gate is available. About 25/30 minutes through Ashbourne from Hulland Ward. Opening times are restricted see photo.

Lunch at 11:30am?  Good grief, I would have to invent another meal after dinner to compensate, something daft, like 'Tea'.

Ian, you have to turn in off the A515 go up the road 100 yards and turn in towards the gates, then it's on the left. I have known about it for years as I used it often when I worked turned up for BT to repair the payphones on the 'wings'.

Andy, worse still that breakfast in the photo is classed as BRUNCH on the menu!!
I'm not sure what brunch is but it's certainly not that.
I dislike the word, it's used by pretentious, hipster sorts! Plus, we can't even say it's American as I believe it was first used in this country over 100 years ago.

Will give that a go, is it fairly new? Never noticed it, been past many times either on my way to Darley Moor or just passing through on the way to Ashbourne and the Peaks.

I don't know when it opened but it must be 20 plus years ago when I first used it. It has been updated & changed a fair bit over the years.
You can't see it from the A515, you have to turn in towards the prison and into the grounds, then it's on the left.
The opening times are not user friendly, they don't open on Saturday or Sunday and limited time weekdays! Plus they may not open at the 'breakfast' times, it depends on if enough inmates are available. Ring to check ..... 01283 584090
