Gave the bike a good degreasing and wash then fitted two new tyres and new chain and sprockets. Tomorrow I'll be covering all the shiny bits with Waxoyl in readiness for the winter months.

Went for a ride. As usual I had no plan on where to go or why to go there. They're always the best ones.

Prepared the bike for winter, washed it down and coated it in WD40, cleaned and lubed the chain.

P.S. Also had a slight issue with the front brakes squeaking so coated those in WD40 too, No more squeaking!

Following the 15k service and with relatively mild weather this morning I thought a run around Aberdeenshire's finest roads on the V-Strom was called for. 150 miles of sublime riding with close to zero traffic and back home for 11am.

Put a 16 tooth front sprocket on it instead of the 15 tooth stock one, Nice improvement IMO, Carries motorway speeds much better  :)

Cured the mayo oil situation that's been present and worsening since my first ride to work (33 miles each way) when the temperature dropped below 9 degrees C.
(and a few mornings of around 3 degrees).
A 230 mile round trip from the Scottish Borders to visit High Force in the North Pennines, cracking roads and very little traffic.

https://goo.gl/maps/wui6ghz7q1w

Air temperature 11 - 15 degrees, checked the sight glass on stopping at High Force
after 145 miles, still showing some condensation/mayo.

Rode home the final 85 miles with only a brief stop for a quick drink and pasty,
left the bike ticking over for 5 minutes on the centre stand and removed the oil
filler cap after switching off the engine.

Left the bike cool down while having a spot of dinner, result lovely mayo-free oil!

No doubt it'll be back .. temperature below 9 degrees seems to be the trigger.

Check the breather pipe isn't kinked, it shouldn't do that just because of temperature change duck-strom.

Your commute is far enough to obviate the creamy vapour in the motor imho.
So how's it going so far then?

Last minute decision before the rain comes...........we rode up to Grindleford Cafe for a change. Good selection of cakes to choose from,  the Date & Walnut was very ice,   :icon_drool5: the Cherry Bakewell...OK?  :thumb: Then up to Ladybower, there was a 'road closed' sign at Fairholmes but the gate was open so road up to Howden. Still, very, very low !!
Then up and over Snake Pass, Glossop, Buxton and stopped at Tagg Lane Dairy for an ice cream as I didn't have one on my last visit.  I only like vanilla and it was great!  :icon_drool5:
Got a bit cooler at dusk but a cracking day out.  :)

I only got 15k out of the first set,but have no idea how it was maintained for the first 7k.The current set has 16k on it and looks as good as new.I turned the front sprocket around at 15k to equalise the wear.To be honest I only changed the full set as I was going to France, the front was hooked and I think I could have just changed the sprocket on its own and carried on for another 10k at least. We shall see. The”Loobman”looks like it is doing its job and is good value for £25 (ish).

Today, I had the Suzuki recall campaign for the fuel pump gasket (mod.'18). But tomorrow, I will check under the tank, if a hose venting of the latter, would not have been pinched on reassembly, because arrived at home, opening the tank cap, large outgassing for 2 seconds. I have never seen this before, on the V-strom  :smirk:

interesting watch joe rocket! - I didn't watch it, but I have now.
I'm going to give the ACF50 a try I think, see how I get on with it - always found it very expensive but it obviously works...
Might even invest in some of the XCP stuff for those harder to reach places!
