New oil and filter,removed the rear brake caliper cleaned it up, fitted new piston seals and refitted. Fitted the skid plate and engine bars and started to sort out the wiring for the new led dlr lights.

Dodged the rain and taken in for new rear tyre ( after only 5000 miles - big smiles though

Not actually, physically done anything with the bike today but, ordered a Givi PL3101 rack to mount some trekker panniers on when I can afford them!

As you probably know, higher longevity = less grip. The tyres with excellent grip don't last long.
You have to find your own compromise. I found mine with Michelin PR4 Trial front and Michelin PR4 non-Trial at rear. I get the grip I want and rear one lasts for 10.000 km's (front one at least double that).

Agree with you bosnjo. Bloody good tyres and have lasted 8500 miles and now looking to change them in the next couple of months.

Wonder why they call it a Trail tyre when it is 100% road usage..

Both have various compounds along the tyre. Trial has harder compounds and width of each compund is different then in non-Trial version. Non-trial would get punched easier through mid compund then Trial if you go offroad.

I understand the various compounds, but I always associated "Trail" and trail riding with being off road, so think that tyre description is a bit misleading when the tyre is designed solely for tarmac use.

Ps: if it was a Trial tyre it would be even more off road focused ;)

No, that tyre is not for tarmac only. The first PR4 I've had was Trail version and I did a lot of good gravel roads with no problems at all. Never tried bad gravel roads or real offroad because Trail PR4 hasn't been made for that. But, as I ride only tarmac now, I've decided few years ago to go non-Trail only. 2 years ago I blew my cigarette lighter plug fuse and had no spare, so in the middle of the remote mountain road I had no GPS. Tried to get out but got lost even more. All the time I could see from the top the village I needed to go to and steep gravel road heading down, straight to it. As I was already low on fuel I had no more options as the phone didn't have a net as well.
Well, I just wanted to explore remote mountain...
So, took that road and arrived well to destination. When I parked the bike, rear tyre was completely flat. Long story short, it had two punctures in the mid compound. Tyre shop took care of it but a month later I bought a new one. After that experience, I only plug GPS into my cigarette lighter plug but still use only non-Trail at the rear.

Took her to work and back and admired her in the car park.
Spent some money.

OEM Lower seat ordered (will try it - it may be going back).
OEM Black tank pads - going for the low banana look.

and I would expect they know what the tyre they built is for, or perhaps "exclusively on the road" has a different meaning.

I thought the trail version was focused towards big/ heavy adventure bikes. So, stiffer side walls.... slightly different way the compounds are manufactured to help deal with the weight and nature of a heavy loaded adventure bike.

PURCHASED the new bike today

After nearly a month waiting for the old bike to be written off and for the insurance people to pay out I have now purchased the new beast. Was torn between the DL1000, GS1200 and the DL650 and after much research, review reading and test rides...... I went for a 2017 WHITE DL650.

The GS was a dream but with running costs more than double that of the DL's and the DL1000 being that tad heavier than the DL650 the need to zip in and out of traffic in London meant the DL650 was the bike for me. The last DL650 was a 2014 so not sure there will be much new to get used to... just need to raise the seat, pop some engine bars on and enjoy it.

No more trains to London....
