Went for a run on the Vee on Sunday. Got a misfire at low rpms, was fine once up/over 3500, but couldn't do that in lower gears as it would go from one to two cylinders in a blink of an eye and make me look like I was going for the "riding god who wheelies round corners" award - or, in my case..."That fat bloke on the bike that wheelied into the hedge" award.
Anyway, despite my warnings to others concerning Vee misfiring & the resulting burning fuel in the cat/exhaust, I ignored my head and soldiered on, convinced it would clear iteslf/dodgy fuel/water in the tank/hamsters nesting in the airbox. Finally, about 70miles from home it caught fire

Luckily I had just stopped at a junction and smelt the burning plastic. I jumped off, whipped off the seat and doused the bugger in 500ml of Lidl's finest eau-de-tap. Fire's out and a nice puddle of molten plastic on the chain guard/ground. Recovered by the AA, 20 minutes to the first van & a sorry can't fix it, 65 minutes to the second van with the tow dolly, 30 minutes to assemble the bike ramp on the towing dolly and 60 minutes to fix the broken wiring on the dolly's trailer lightboard

. Called AA at 13:30, home at 18:30. Thank feck it wasn't raining. I was pissed off by then so I slung it in the shed and I'll look at it later.
Ordered the replacement coils etc including a very reasonable £30 for an '08 secondhand undertray. Should get it working again this weekend.
Wife suggested I immediately replace it and said "why don't you get one of those BMW's your mates have all got, just do that PCP thingy"

Got me thinking though...now looking at near new XT1200 Super Ten - £9k for a v.low mile fully loaded '15 plate.....hmmmm
