I took my Wee out for it's first proper ride - down to Cookstown MOT station. The weather was awful. Proper driving rain, 5C, bit windy too. Bike did great, my coat, new trousers all were fine. Only had my leather summer gloves and they got wet and then very cold, but I was OK to get the 20 miles to Cookstown.

The test was simple enough enough. The tester offered to do the roller test for me - I accepted. Rest of the test very straightforward, he had a good look round it check everything, no surprises, handed my my pass certificate. Went out and it had stopped raining. I headed home on a wet road, but thankfully no rain meant dryer hands & better vision.

Bike is very impressive, easy to manoeuvre, not much wind buffeting that I noticed and pulls well from about 3k revs. I only had it up to 65 or so, I didn't go down the motorway - all back roads. I barely had to use the brake, the engine braking is very strong on her, just roll off the throttle and the engine pulls the speed back very well, feels very direct. Pleased to get it back home and into the garage. She'll need a good clean now!

I was too late to tax it today - the post office is closed - and the MOT hasn't came through on the system yet, but since it's so wet here I'm not missing out on much, to be honest. Kind of relieved all the testing and exams and all that is basically over. I look forward to getting out on a dry day and going somewhere random for the fun of it. I'll definitely pop out and do some touring this week if I can get away!

Nice that my new waterproof winter gloves were waiting for me when I got home.. they'd arrived when I was out doing the MOT...! Typical ????

Checked online at 9am this morning, and lo and behold the MOT was on the system. I taxed it there and then, so I'm all 100% road legal. I managed to get away shortly after lunch for a few mins, so as an excuse to check my bank balance at the nearest ATM, I took the bike. I stopped off on the way and showed a friend of mine I knew was about his house the bike. He was very impressed with it as well, he used to ride a scooter back in the day! I made it up to the ATM and back down again, the drizzle was constant, but the bike never missed a beat. I was very gentle round corners (Only have my licence 3 or 4 weeks!) and roundabouts but she never twitched once.

My new waterproof gloves worked well, but my boots seemed leaky - they were still wet from yesterday!

I think I'll wait for the roads (and my boots) to dry out a little more for my next trip.

Fitted the amazing Aux fuse box/relay from BigPie - Cheers for that mate - And wired in my heated grips (toasty!)... Although not as well as I would like, time was pressing, and will remove the fuel tank to improve the wiring, at some point. It'll do for now!

Glad it went well for you. I was going to keep the last one and use it for heated grips on my KTM.

Working from home full time now so not getting out on the vstrom much, even missing the cold commute now.

Thankfully, I am only asked to work from home twice a week, and the firm are fairly flexible as to when - Oddly, my WFH days are fairly weather biased at the moment! :)

I quit work to work for my self, so they'd get a bit funny if I still turned up at the office to use my old desk.

Went out this afternoon, and did 40 miles or so, mainly along the southern shore of Lough Neagh. My Dad was born about 2 miles from where the Bann river flows into the Lough, on the west side of the river. I've often been down the the 'Bannfoot' - there used to be a hand pulled ferry there - but I've never actually been across to the east bank. Today I wanted to put in some miles on the bike, get some practise riding and I decided I'd ride through Portadown, cross the Bann there, then cut back north-west towards Lough Neagh and the East bank of the Bannfoot.

I'd never been out that way - there's no through road, so it's very quiet. I came to the small village of Derrytrasna, then on straight to Bannfoot, and a small picnic area. It is picturesque. Glad I ticked that box. Took a couple of pics, then back into Derrytrasna and cut North on the tiny Ardmore Road, following the shore of Lough Neagh east into the town of Lurgan. I stuck a tenner's worth of petrol in the bike, and an older bloke came over and started talking to me about it. It was nice that he showed an interest.

I rang a mate that lives there on the off chance he was at home - he wasn't so I decided to pop my motorway cherry and head back home West on the M1. 40 miles in total, very enjoyable, totally dry and about 5C. No major issues, my hands were warm, even without handguards or heated grips.

My fork brace has arrived from Cosmo, I'll try to get time to get it stuck on tomorrow. It will obviously need a test ride too...

:thumb: :thumb: Nice pictures, I've only been to N Ireland once about 6 years ago. I want to do it by bike some day, maybe even take in the NW200, now that would be a nice trip.

Used a 'stop'n go' mushroom repair kit to fix a puncture.

(Well actually, a puncture I just created myself, on an old tyre in the warmth of my kitchen!  :lala:
Having bought the kit months ago I decided it might be a good idea to have a practice to see how it worked, rather than trying it out for the first time on a cold, rainy roadside somewhere!   Well worthwhile as well, took me a while to work it out, but I could do it for real very quickly and easily now.   :thumb: )

I'd recommend anyone who enjoys bikes to see a road race at least once in their lives. If I can be of any help with routes or advice, let me know. It's a lovely ride from Belfast, up along the coast road, round to Portrush.
All the best,
Ali

Thanks again for your offer.  :thumb: :thumb:

Last time I had the front sprocket cover off I noticed a broken strand on the clutch cable, finally got round to changing it today, still didn't look too bad until I tried bending it...

It's surprising how bad a cable can be without looking at it.
I was nurseing an iffy clutch cable when It went ping on the way to work this summer.

Thankfully I wss 300yrds from work and two of us picked it up in the van.
But we didn't have one in stock and I had a 4 day wait to get one from Honda in Belgium.

Just changed the sprocket carrier bearing. Was surprised to see the state of it (pic below). For whatever reason the seal was on the bottom  (the top seal if there was one was missing).

Was thinking of changing the rear wheel bearings as they feel ever so slightly notchy but I can't get the inner tube out of the way to tap the bearings out - the tube is held quite tight by both bearings. Methinks I may need to buy a bearing puller...  They were only changed July 16 - Not sure if the carrier bearing was done then?

Just on a tea break having stabbed my hand with a screw driver whilst starting to clean the rear brakes then back to work...  :fix:
