First ride of 2025, Stapleford Airfield.  Five degrees and some flooded roads, but nice warm cafe with decent food and coffee.  Took longer to clean the bike afterwards than it did to ride home.

Finally got to test the Givi Airflow and have successfully determined that I've made everything worse..... All screen heights, all speeds, worse than the MRA I took off. I'll see if I can move it to the higher mounting point and retest but I'm not hopeful.  Gutted  :yukk:

Screens are a blummin pain aren't they.
Not cheap to try a different one either.
I'm pleased with my set up, not ecstatic, just pleased. But someone else might try it and hate it.

I once fitted a tall "Slipscreen" and it was so efficient that in the winter my visor misted up and I had to keep my head out sideways a little so as to see where I was going. Too much of a good thing.

Screens really are a minefield.

I have a Givi on my 650 and it is superb, I sit in a bubble of calm air, so much so that I was able to do a 450 mile ride from Scotland to home, overnight with my visor open the whole way.

My 1200GS came to me with an elephantine smoked screen that throws turbulent air at me at 30 MPH, even on the highest setting. I have managed to change it to a standard screen and now at least the air hitting my face is smooth, but not the bubble of calm I have on the VStrom.
The older I get, the better I was.

MilozFolly, for me, on my 650 L2, higher was not the answer. I eventually had mine on a low setting. The bottom screen in the middle & the top screen as low as possible. I also fitted different mirrors & mirror extenders, but they only made a minimal difference, it was the low screen that sorted the buffeting for me.
The Givi Airflow works on the Venturi effect, meaning the more the two screens overlap the better.

Thanks Mick. I've popped the Palmers adjuster bracket on under the airflow so will give it another test with the range of adjustment that affords.  I tried the screen on various settings yesterday and lower was certainly better than max height but none were good sadly.

I had a look at mine this afternoon. It's set higher up to incorporate a gadget bar I made which sits above the dash (for GPS and Go-Pro). The top Givi screen is set halfway up the adjustment slides. A good guage I used was to have clear vision when rounding over the top of a hill.

Like was reported above I have negative pressure between my body and the screen at speed, often some rain drops and insects are blown forwards in that 'void'. I find I can ride visor up too and no buffeting at helmet level either. I have not changed mirrors.

As I feel I ride more sedately autumn through to spring I have put the standard screen back but that is disaster for protection and buffeting. Might I suggest you restart with the stazndrd screen for comparison?
So how's it going so far then?

Fitted Motea crash bars.

They're a hefty bit of kit with 28mm tubing - each side weighing a smidge under 3kg. Over 7Kg all together.

Took a couple of hours,  would take the front wheel off for fitting if I had to do it again to improve access.

Time will tell of course regarding quality but overall pleased with 'em.

Price goes up and down like a yo-yo on the Motea website https://www.motea.uk/fairing-crash-bar-compatible-with-Suzuki-v-strom-650-xt-17-24-upper-engine-guard-a017040-0?gad_source=5&gclid=EAIaIQobChMInvrCosXNigMVdPYRCB2JSw1GEAEYASABEgIglPD_BwE

For info I paid £109.98 and they arrived in about a week with no duty or anything like that on top.

They look very high up and tight to the upper bodywork/tank. Do they protect the bar ends if the bike is laid over? (Hoping you never have to count on them of course  :icon_wink: )
So how's it going so far then?

I think the camera angle is deceptive. The widest part of the bars sit about an inch and a half further out than the front indicator ends.

Would they protect the bar ends? I just used a length of decking to try to simulate it being on its side and on full lock the bar ends are well tucked in. I think the handguards would touch the ground but to be honest would rather it was those than the levers/ends, they're only cheapies.

I got them because they sit higher!  :)

Good news!  Testing of the Airflow with the Palmers bracket has iproved things immeasurably!!  Another up side is that I've got my accessory bar back and also now have a brand new, unopened Quadlock clutch/brake mount for sale (I'll pop it into the apporpriate section) because I won't need it.  Much happier today  :auto-dirtbike:

Took it out for it's first ride of the year (first time in a couple of months to be honest), only a 60 mile loop with the missus, stopped for a burger and chips half way at Poolehall Cafe.
Nice little ride, so good to get out again, 2 + hours of fun followed by over an hour washing the mud and salt off :)

Connected the Optimate. Not ridden in nearly a month due to being away from home then getting Flu.
Maybe tomorrow. Fancy a cooked breakfast.  :)

Fitted a location tag to my motorbike keys, car keys and one spare to leave in the car or hidden on the bike as required. I then took a ride through the countryside and found what must have been the dirtiest road ever.

I went home via a pressure washer and carefully cleaned the bike only to find it almost as dirty again when I got home so, I know what I'm doing tomorrow.    :thumb:

One of my Christmas presents, an Ogio TB2 tail bag.

Handy for overnighters. In expanded form it fits a pair of shoes, jeans, jocks and socks, shirt, jumper and assorted bits and pieces.

Looks the 'biz', an indicator of cost would be nice as I'm looking for something to sit on my pillion seat (other than my dry bag) for a trip to France in August.
