Took my 2004 DL650 to the Suzuki dealer in Pecs here in Hungary. Valve check, new plugs, air filter and throttle body synch for £162.00.
The mechanic was impressed with the condition of the bike which has 70,000kms on the clock. His being impressed impressed me so I'm keeping her. The steering head bearings were a bit notchy so he's going to replace them.

Great bikes. I must admit it's taken me a while to grow fond of her but after 4 years and 25000kms she's never let me down, which can't be said for my R1150GS. :dl_smiley_banghead:

Cheers,

Dicky.

Fitted  a Hawk end can from Pipewerx. In my opinion it looks and sounds so much better than the original.

Another short ride round the Southern Cotswolds area.

I finally hit 30,000 miles on the bike and it's only taken 18 years to do it. It's taken nearly 9 years to move through the 20's and I did 2,000 of that 10,000 in two weeks.

Never mind, I've already done half of my 2022 mileage in 2023 so far.

Was that 2000 on your trip to Gib.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

Pyramid came up trumps with my Puig Hugger rubbers. So it's on, it's damn tight in there, who thought it was a good idea to put a one piece exhaust on?
Not me that's for sure, my right hand looks a lot like a piece of rare beef.
I don't know if all huggers are this troublesome to fit but I hope it's my last.

Today I removed the fuel tank for the first time since I got the thing and there was a lot of swearing involved with the clippy coupling thingy from the pump. Eventually with a cable tie holding the tangs down I got it off.
There was a missing bolt elsewhere and a broken lug on one of the tank side trim panels so I am not the first to be in this far. And of course the air filter which I sought access to wasn't too bad at all, but will buy another so I won't be removing the tank for a while .......... hopefully.
Of course on my old bike there was none of this modern ............... grumble moan whinge etc.

     “Coolshirt”
Don’t throw the old filter away, give it a gentle wash in non bio wash powder, then a rinse in warm water, let it dry thoughly and as long as it has not been punctured it will be re-useable.

Ianmc. That's the first I've ever heard of oil filter clean and reuse.

Would you like to make a separate thread of that so you can defend your proposal please? Fact checking is necessary don't you think?

I would be very interested to reuse filters on both my bikes and my car......  :icon_wink:
So how's it going so far then?

For the cost I wouldn’t personally bother. I would be better for the environment, but they are so cheap when compared to the time it would take and the small risk of not properly cleaning it… I doubt it’s worth it.

I was referring to oil filters. Air filters I use K&N and wash it regularly  :thumb:

Plan to buy a new one and then wash the old one and keep as a spare, back in the day my GSX250 had a foam air filter soaked in oil. Simples!

Sorry Ianmc!  :shy:  I feel a bit of a Barble Mick here.......

As they always say...."if it's not punctured" lured me into my trap.   :violence-smack:

Yes, I do clean my air filters for one turn only though.
So how's it going so far then?

I am using the original air filter that was in a previous bike(a K9) that I purchased in 2015 and the one that came with my L2 is washed and on the shelf ready for the next change. We used to do this on truck air filters in the 70’s in a special cleaning drum, when you have a fleet and each filter costs a few hundred quid the costs soon add up.

Having got the tank back on with a shiny new air filter underneath it I went out for a ride and the placebo effect kicked in as it seems much improved! More than you might expect after removing a slightly used air filter (I've kept it) and replaced it with a new one.
Got back to HQ and replaced the tank trim panels and then decided to undo and grease the forward allen key bolts of the front mudguard. Out they came (phew!) covered in some sort of loctite ......... cleaned up greased and back together. Now for some oil.
This looks a good deal: https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/240460

I've read that the standard 1050 screen is a gem. Sadly, I find it crap. It's now been replaced with a Puig, taller and wider, and a vast improvement. Now looking for a tanklock ring and rails for givi luggage. Almost ready to tour.
