Bloomen mpg!!
« on: November 14, 2011, 13:33:14 »
I thought I would try to be very nice to my Wee...I rode the whole tank(from full to flashing last bar) all under 6k rpm! I was trying to find out how that effected the mpg, unlike 'normal' riding when the rpm needle goes all over the place.
The results are under 6k rpm = 55.2mpg, unlike my previous 'normal' riding(and alot more fun!) where I got 58.4mpg!!! Work that out..ride more carefully and the mpg drops?

At least I know from now on, ride the bike to enjoy yourself and the mpg won't be too bad!!

One tank isn't enough to judge.

If you ride smooth and keep your top speed down you will get good mpg, if you ride all or nothing with full throttle or brakes and a high top speed you will get reasonable mpg, the wee 'doesn't do' bad mpg.
Now on a Super Tenere having put 64k miles on a 2011 DL650

it's more about the beans you give the throttle rather than the revs

I have clocked over 70 mpg from my 2008 twin spark Wee.

Usually I get in the high 60s and this is admittedly not crazy riding but I am not riding it like grandma either.

Now I am commuting on my Wee every day, mpg is important especially as out dear government gets about £1 tax for every litre of fuel - I suppose it's got more money to bomb the **** out of any one it does not like.

Don't you just love the politicians!!!!! Yes £1 of your litre goes on TAX bless 'em all!!!

I think little engines like to be spun up.  I get best mpg at about 6krpm.  Found the same thing on a 125 - lugging it used more fuel.

Government are today (Tuesday ) debating the fact petrol is due to go up again in January.

Note it is THEM who took the decision to raise tax on petrol.

Yes about a £1 of your litre goes on VAT and fuel duty so YOU are getting shafted and what do WE do? Lay down and take it from the idle politicians comfortable on their £60,000 plus salaries.

Labour, Tory or Lib Dem they are all advised by climate change fanatics and civil servants who believe in eco green credentials. So WHATEVER party you support they don't give a fig for ordinary people (IMHO).

I'm averaging about 48-49mpg from the KLV1000. My best is 50mpg on a long motorway run at constant speed. My best on the daily commute is 48.95mpg, keeping to around 65-70mph on theopen road and (ahem!) leagal ish speeds in traffic through town.

no idea without seeing a dyno chart of a DL650 I'm sure there are a few about the net but from it find where the engine makes its peak torque and while out riding keep the needle there regardless of gear. the see what the mpg is like.
id guess that you keeping it below 6k included quite a bit of riding where the bike was struggling to pick up due to too high a gear, that's where the mpg took the nosedive.
I'm getting nowhere near it now but before fitting the leo system to my wee I was getting about the 70mpg mark without trying.

hi 60 -65 mpg every time 11 plate wee :I asked  a motorcycle journalist friend of mine about getting a larger slipstream windscreen and would it reduce my mpg he said Everything is just a distraction It's all about how you use your right hand. that has stuck with me and unless someone has cut me up or peed me off I get up to speed steady (with the exception of overtaking ) and it works for me.
