650V - repair or sell as is?
« on: November 06, 2009, 15:36:22 »
Hi, after 6 months/3,000m, my work outside London is over, and I'm finding the V a bit heavy for westminster's tight bike park slots, so time to part with my V.

Confession time - as well a cosmetic mishapo when a lorry reversed into it whilst parked the day after I bought it, I also dropped it on the other side when doing a U turn, so there's scratches to both tank panels and the front lamp covers/nose etc. As a novice rider, I havent repaired them yet, and am riding around daily in town, as I thought it might happen again

Question is, do I sell the V as is, or get my local to respray ?

Also, does anyone private bother with other sites or just ebay?

Well given you have a 700+ captive audience here of V Strom owners or admirers    it's definitely worth a punt posting it here first  :thumb:

It doesn't help the sale if the bike looks a bit rough and scraped, try to get an estimate on the respray costs first, or you will just have to except to get knocked down on the price if you sell private

How old is the bike? If its relatively newish I'd say more likely to repair it. whereas if its an older model maybe not worth it so much - just cut your losses & run.

I'm with Sven on this one, get a quote to have it done properly - nothing devalues a bike more than a half arsed repair. If it's a few years old it's just character   :thumb:

well, I've managed another 16 months without further mishap :) but the task of parking regularly in Westminster's few pizzamoped-sized "motorcycle" parking bays is defeating me, so it's finally time to spray the plastic tank covers & sell the bike. Can anyone recommend a really good sprayshop, or source the metallic light blue paint colour code?

Yeah my Stroms front end pokes out of the bays a bit :( There are a lot of car parks that are free in Westminster though. I use China town quite regularly. Individual bays, CCTV and weather protection for free is a nice deal :)

Leave it as it is and ride it. My stroms covered in scratches and scrapes it gives her character and shows it doesn't spend its time hidden away only to emerge on sunny days.

If it's that scratched then your problem has solved itself.

Don't worry about squeezing in amongst the scooters just do it and enjoy the grind.... :shy:

A disgrace to biking...
