work this one out!
« on: February 28, 2011, 15:27:55 »
Contacted my local Suzuki main dealer today looking for a 4k service. Whilst on the phone I asked about a remap of the ECU to cure the known fueling issue.
The bloke said he had never heard of such an issue and never had a bike in to remap.
From the jist of what he was saying he believed that it was not possible to alter the fueling using a computer because the ECU was not advanced enough?
I tried to explain that there are plenty on this and other forums who reckon they have had their ECUs remapped, but he just poo pood this.

The dealer is Thunderoad in Bridgend South Wales

+1 for Fowlers, at least they know what they are doing and the spares are probably as cheap as you'll get for genuine stuff :thumb:

OK I've discussed v stroms with a few of the ladies at Thunderroad, they informed me that one of the mechanics there has a wee and rides from crosshands to bridgend every day for work. it looks like crap, never ever cleans but well maintained, I bet he's done some research and knows all about the Vee fueling, even if it's not a widely told to the public. think it's an attempt to keep the Suzuki brand image, which as we all know they spend a load on engine design and re-developing the sports bikes but bugger all on the rest of the range especialy paint thickness and general finish, but it can't be that bad as most of us have bought one!
plus thunderroad are bloody expensive! nice people though.

This is the reply I just got from Suzuki u.k.- So there we have it from the horses mouth, no fueling issues on U.K. bikes1- now I'm confused! :occasion-balloons:

Thank you for your email enquiry.

We have been in contact with our Technical Department regarding your concerns. We can confirm that we are aware that there were some reports of an issue when applying full throttle on early DL1000 K2 / K3 models, however; this was only on machines sold in Italy and not the UK.

Your machine should not require remapping, however; if you are concerned, you can arrange an inspection at Thunder Road Motorcycles in Bridgend. They will be able to check all of the throttle butterflies and then look at the electronic settings of the machine. Remapping, if required, can be carried out with the use of their ‘Yoshi box’ fuelling equipment.

We would like to confirm that the two year warranty on your machine has now expired, once outside the warranty period any repairs will be chargeable.  However; in the event that a defect is identified, if you are the original owner, the machine is less than three years old and has a full Suzuki service history a goodwill request can be submitted by the Dealership for consideration.

We hope this clarifies our position on this matter, should you require any further information please feel free to contact us on 0500 011959.

Kind regards

It makes sense to me. If you have got an aftermarket exhaust system you can hardly expect Suzuki to be responsible for the fact that the fuel system needs adjustment to suit.

If you have the original exhaust, there's nothing wrong with the map. What do you expect them to say?

Where did you get the idea there was a problem?

I'm not holding Suzuki responsible for anything or asking them to do anything for free, however there are countless posts on here from owners who have had their ECUs remapped because the bike runs lean at low revs. Some have said that Suzuki mechanics have told them they were just produced this way to get through emissions regs.

It just seems strange that some main  dealers recognise this but others don't is all I am saying.
You can just do a quick search about rough running at low revs on here to deduce this is a common problem with the standard exhausts especially!

It sounds like the dealers are doing the re-maps off their own backs. If they have the necessary equipment & the mechanics willing to do it. Obviously not an official, Suzuki approved upgrade. (because then Suzuki would have to admit it was wrong in the first place & they don't like to do that, do they!!!)
As coopmick suggested, I would try another dealer. You'll probably get a totally different responce.

I have 07--DL1000 and was not happy with low revs running and spoke to dealer-after speaking to another 1000 owner I had a Dynojet remap--again I was not happy and s a result got intouch with suzukigb
Basically they acknowledged I had a misfire problem on my bike but as it was now out of warranty I would have to pay any costs if the bike went into a dealer---with costs of £50 pre hour +vat I decided against
It appears susuki are awre of problems but couldt give a tcuck

I recently had a dealer re-map by Suzuki main dealer CJ Ball Ltd, located in Hales, Loddon, Suffolk. They are fully aware of the Vee s low rev fueling issue on the standard set up.  My K7 now definately runs smoother & is nicer to ride.

Went in for my service the other day....different bloke on the service desk , couldn't have been more helpful!
He was well aware of the fueling issues with big Suzuki twins, said he even has checked and brought it up on pre delivery inspections.

He got the mechhanic to check it over with the yoshi box and altered it ''2 clicks'' whatever that means.

Bike running so much more smoothly now . Best bit, how much ? I asked, ''nothing '' he said '' It only takes 5 minutes and we'll do it as part of the service!

Funny how you can get two completely different levels of customer service from the same shop!

Having a rough running issue on my 10 plate 650 I did a little research and yep seemsto have an inherent problem with "coughing" on rolling on of the throttle
It appears that throttle body gaitors become loose and in some cases detached from af box
Tbs needs doing with startling regularity
And also in severe cases throttle bodies " move"( not sure what that's all about, will speak to metropolis on Monday)
So bit silly of Suzuki to say no faults when they are all over tinters!
