V-Strom DL650 2007 to mod to DL1000 07 Engine
« on: October 08, 2010, 11:52:09 »
:occasion-balloons: hi blokes and gals I'm New to this site, I have a question to all you veteran V-Strom Mechanics.
is it possible to Upgrade my V-Strom DL650 2007 C.a.n.d.y Red (2007 Limited Ed and Original colour) and replace my DL650 engine with a DL1000 engine with some Exhaust modification (I have 1 exhaust)? if I can then I'd be pleased coz I like my bike as it is but its lacking in the Power area and I don't want to buy a new one. Thank you  :fix:

I'm not sure if it would work, it would need a lot of associated parts besides the engine.  I would be inclined to part ex your wee for a vee, even if the vee needs to be older you can still find good low mileage vee's.
If you did your own conversion I think you're insurance would have to be told which would be an excuse for them to murder your wallet so all in all a swap for a vee sounds the best proposition.

Good luck with whatever you do.

Not 100% sure but I think the frame is pretty much the same. No doubt you would also have to change the electrics ECU etc. There will be differences in the drive chain / swingarm / gearing etc in view of the higher power output, front forks are also different on a Vee. Perhaps someone on the American sites will know more. As per the previous comment, for the hassle, cost, insurance issues,it's probably cheaper to p/x it for a Vee, furthermore, if you wanted to sell it after such a conversion I don't think you would get a sensible price. Oh - and the clutch on a Vee is hydraulic so you'd need to factor in a master cylinder, clutch lever mechanism blah blah........

:ty:  Thank you for Answering my question  :occasion-balloons: I read the message 15mins ago,and I think if it would cost too much, it would be better to get a new DL1000 (vee) to save the Hassel, but rather than part ex I'll keep my DL650X as it is and save up for a DL1000 (vee) as a 2nd bike..

Thank you again  :ty:
