scotoiler - how full? can't tell
« on: October 08, 2010, 19:58:26 »
How hard is it to see how much oil you have left in your scotoiler.
Quite hard actually, as it comes in a smoked coloured cylinder, that is then attached to the side of the rear
frame.

Have my eyes had it, or does everyone ( when not in direct sunlight), have to use a torch, to see
the level ?

( that's my groan over with)

Shouldn't be too difficult to see, so prolly your eyes :old:

Mine's mounted in the under seat tray which seems to work well - and surprisingly easy to see, blue oil, in a dark tube against black... shouldn't work, but it does

Must admit even with my dodgy eyes I can see the oil level  :old:

I have mine mounted under the seat - maybe you should remount it into a more visible place

I think that is a good idea , having it installed under the seat.
Bit beyond my techy know-how, I think.
So I'll get that job done when it is next in for a service around Dec

Mine was under the seat, but hidden next to the frame.

So it was almost completly covered by the panel under the seat.

Was fitted really well (the fitter had fabricated a bracket and everything!)

But it was impossible to see the level, and almost impossible to fill!
(I ran with it empty for the first 12months and used spray lube instead)

So I re-located it to inside the tray under the seat, I use old engine oil in mine rather than Scott Oil
and re-fill it with a syringe (without needle) takes 2 mins and is really easy to check level etc.

I have a Tuturo oiler, it's a clear tube, I also have it fitted under the seat, on the left bolted to the frame. Where you have it might be a big factor in how easy it is to see it. I can see the oil level very easily and I fill it with a syringe. I use clean oil, doesn't matter what it is, anything that I can find.
