Will the standard Suzuki bck plate that's already on the 2010 DL650 let me put my givi M5 plate on so I can fix my top box to it? the plate on it currently has a rubber mat/cover that appears to be just pushed on with 4 little rubber lugs

Yes it should fit , Mrs Eric had one on her Wee allowing the better Givi box to be fitted, never had a problem with it.
