Revving high update
« on: April 13, 2025, 17:33:43 »
Hi all,
I posted a couple of weeks ago about a friend's new bike (2008 DL1000) that was revving very high from cold then settling down to normal tick over when warm.
I got some very good advice from Rexington43 and following his advice I stripped his bike down to calobtate the fast idle.
Having removed the air box I noticed the secondery butterflies had been removed and on closer inspection it looked as the fast idle cam was leaving the primer throttle bodies open slightly so I removed the cam all together as it was serving no purpouse since the butterflies were missing.
As a result the bike starts fine and ticks over perfectly now so not sure why the secondery butterflies were put on in the first place unless it's something to do with emissions?

Glad you got it sorted.
I think the secondaries are mainly for cold starts and smoothing out abrupt throttle changes. Some report better acceleration and throttle response after removal, but then some claim 10% more torque from new socks........
Only downside might be a tendancy to stall on very cold mornings, nothing major.
