AI taking control?…..
« on: February 14, 2025, 16:05:22 »
To say I’m a little bit perplexed is an understatement.😡

I’ve just been looking on the Sports Bike Shop website, considering buying some heated grips.

There are 22 reviews for one of the products, with only the latest visible to read. The other 21 are an AI-generated, paraphrased story made up from all the other reviews!🤷‍♂️

I want to read them for myself thank you.

I’m happy to use technology, but the technology is taking away the ‘need’ for me to read all the reviews……🤷‍♂️

Thank you very much for your help Mr / Mrs AI, but I’d like the option to choose for myself. Too much to ask?😉

Just been on the site, I clicked on the first thing that came up, it did allow me to read the individual reviews with a load more option.
Although I do think I've seen the AI version too when looking at something else.
They're good sellers though, easy no quibble returns, good prices and stock levels too.

I’ve used them for years, and I’ll be happy to do so.👍

It may be me, but every time I tried to click on the 22 reviews, it took me to this.🤷‍♂️

I haven't needed to buy heated grips from Sportsbikeshop, I had the dealer fit them to my last bike as part of the purchase and they were already fitted to my present bike when I bought it but, Sportsbikeshop is the cheapest for Oxford heated grips that I've seen. As said already, they are an excellent company to deal with. I've bought loads from a crash helmet to oil from them and never had a problem.  :thumb:

I had these on my 650, very hot. https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/101830

It’s not SBS I’m having an issue with, gents……. It’s AI and it being thrust upon us whether we want it or not.🤷‍♂️

When I research anything I want to buy, I want to be able to read real reviews and not a story made up of a selection of reviews by AI.

That’s the only point I’m trying to make.👍

Phil, I get it.
But....
Just like Internet shopping, social media, motorcycle forums, this is progress.......apparently. Who'd have thought 20 years ago us motorcycle types would be sitting on a sofa chatting whilst sipping a good malt even though Counties, Countries and Continents seperate us.
AI will be superceded, improved, tweaked and altered along the way, it doesn't matter too much if we like it or not.
There's only one constant, change.

Dam…… I missed out on the single malt! Maybe I’ll do that tonight.😁

Real reviews are just the opinions of sniveling sycophants who merely repeat the publicity blurb or permanently dissatisfied old gits like me who moan about everything. Yes there are lots of nice people adding their reviews, but let's me honest they are probably voters as well and see where that's got us. AI will note down every word you write on any forum, social media, and review. It will mark your card and control all incomming information and then convince you of anything they want to believe. Ha I hear you all say "not me I'll be the individual that can't be controlled." You think they won't have a plan for dealing with all the mavericks who boast about their individuality?
You know those identity questionnaires that ask:- Name of first school, First pet, Fathers first car, place of first foriegn holiday, favourite colour, favourite food, name or childhood best friend. etc. Yeah! they already know so much stuff eh?  Oh! and by the way I expect all the posts in social media have been scooped up and run through the systems.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can. Nothing travels faster than the speed of time.

I’m past it all now Brockett. I’m sticking with Upt North’s idea of single malt.👍

Deepseek, the recently released  Chinese AI is open source, so anyone can download it and run it on a machine powerful enough, £6000ish for the machine I heard . There may well be problems if bad actors ( no ..not Charlie Sheen ) get hold of it. Anyone with £6000 can now do Government level hacking/ deep fakes.
I also heard about some computer blokes at Cambridge Uni that have taught AI to replicate and defend itself from deletion  , they gave it access to Chat gpt and let it loose. It learnt to get around all they could do to stop it...Fortunately it was just a simulation .This time

I was quite looking forward to the "quiet war " ( for Iain M Banks readers ) when the benevolent machines take over, not so sure now

Our government say they want us to be leaders in the future AI market, they also say that they want to get more people off the dole. I would suggest that they can't have it both ways.  :groan:

You might have missed the point Ianmc, they don't need someone to switch them on....or off, they decide for themselves and override.

I'd go for the wall socket myself.

(It might just be all too late though.)
So how's it going so far then?

It's OK Doc, the billionaires who own the AIs will need an army of less fortunate types to use as bio batteries to power the insanely energy hungry servers.
I saw a documentary about it back in the 90s, it was called The Matrix I think.

Joe…Mmm….I have worked at quite a few data centres installing emergency generators in case of a power failure,I can assure you that they don’t run for many minutes on the emergency backup batteries ,therefore,no power no AI.The batteries are only there to keep the data centre going until the emergency generators fire up and take the load(usually about a minute).Just switch them off.
