Hi Fellow Stormers. No compression! 2003.DL1000
« on: March 05, 2025, 16:28:23 »
I have no compression on my rear cylinder. I'm prepared to have a look inside, but I am struggling to find somewhere that I will be able to get Gaskets, and possibly valves or rings. Do any of you know anywhere that still keeps stocks? Thanks!!

This an into section.  Perhaps if you post under the V-Strom specific discussion section, you will receive a reply or two.  Please list the sites that you have already tried so far for spares.

As above, you're best to post in the V-Strom specific section- but you're looking for a dealer part - aftermarket, if available (not likely for an early DL1000), will not likely be the same quality - contact your local dealers - and yes dealer part, dealer price.

We're Strommers.

Moved to the General Section where more people will see your question.

Why not go and add an intro now :thumb:

Good to see another Vee owner. What happened to lose compression, did you massively over-rev it accidentally?  I've never heard of a major blow up/dropped valve on one.

I would look up the part numbers on here

https://www.suzukiparts.co.uk/shop/online-store/Suzuki-parts-finder/dl-v-strom/DL1000/k2-k6-2002-2006.htm#!dl1000k2cylheadrear

Then if they don't have stock see if you can find the part numbers on webike, e.g. heres' the head gasket https://japan.webike.net/ps/11141-02F01/#!search&p.k=11141-02F01

Just to add, Webike (linked above) can be insanely cheap compared to local places. Just watch the postage charges as if you go into another postage band it might be worth buying a few more bits you need!

To me, it sounds like you may either have a valve that is burnt / stuck open / not seating, a holed piston, a damaged spark plug thread or an exhaust header sealing problem.

Check the spark plug seating area for any split or damaged thread. Inspect the exhaust header for any leaks.  Remove the valve cover and have a look whether the valves move at all. If the valves move, then try with a bore scope to have a look see if there is any signs of damage. Bore scopes that connect to your cell phone, may be available from ebay or amazon.

Also check that you don't have a similar cam timing gear failure, as discussed in https://www.stromtrooper.com/threads/camshaft-gear-mishap-any-thoughts.63833/
