Bulbs, 2018 650XT
« on: September 15, 2024, 21:17:23 »
Alright lads,

Just realised my main headlight bulb has gone. Found out by accident. Bloody annoying as I have a long trip to do on Wednesday evening. Looks like a real pain in the arse to do as well - finally discovered something I don't like about this bike!

Anyway, there's a decent video by Dr Vstrom on YouTube so will give it a go tomorrow.

I'm thinking it might be worth replacing all three bulbs whilst I'm in there. Are they all the same?

Also, I have a H7 (477) from about 5 years ago, never used. Will that be alright or am I best just getting new ones? Will any H7 work?

High is H9, Low H7, side light is a 5w don't know what type.But a common bulb.
Any bulb that is H7 or H9 will fit the respective lamp.
The "old" bulb will be fine as long as it is still sealed in the pack.
 I went to these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184468664724?_skw=osram+ultra+life+h7&epid=9032156998&itmmeta=01J7WE9MWZGPXVWTHKCW88MAWD&hash=item2af3307194:g:1fAAAOSwUlxfdIzm&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA0HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKnKvQhpG%2BME6B5whdcc8YglHbYbWFjqjM7PJcTdk%2BC67rj1Frrdo5kTnEEjuXHq6DV7j9rCqZdxx9fVxEwcVua6zC%2Bv5ur2f6uwNwXAFX1fzfUWI5VBMocMRynQmElIVAIh1ew0nStxvXJ6OJ2sI5H5aEsL%2BQca95vBZpWYUBFFDKL9oQ8MnoAf7AkzXIn23%2BQnJzRU4PutpR08BVgfDi%2Brv%2B8S50eQJRK%2FgR%2FNWZqYv74sej%2BL%2FuXa8WJy9T1EL0o%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR8jOpo6_ZA&edge=1
The dip from new only lasted 5k, changed it for another std one and 5k later blew again :GRR:, these have been in 20k now so...
Getting to the bulb is a faf, the first time is annoying, but I can change a bulb in 25/30 mins now.The side pieces on the nose are the tricky bit,  slide then pull (gently). Once off look at the way the hooked pegs work and it is easier to see how it fits.Copperslip/grease the bolts before replacing.

It was actually quite easy, although seeing the Dr Vstrom video yesterday helped and I seemed to remember all the steps. Somewhat fiddly and inconvenient compared to previous bikes, but not all that bad! Providing the nose doesn't drop off the bike whilst I'm hurtling down the M1 tomorrow  lol

Oh, and that old bulb in the box seems to be working fine!

It is strange the number of different ways to get to the bulbs on various bikes.
My old GS 550 with it's 9" Cibie headlight , one screw and in.
But both my Fazer 1000s ( gens 1 &2) needed nothing taking off, just reach past the bars and there they were

I don't want to talk about my SMT 990 however...I am still traumatised. :icon_no:

Ho hum

You'd make Fat Rat very happy if the nose did drop off.  :stirpot:
