800RE tyres?
« on: July 13, 2024, 18:17:45 »
Hi

Just asking the new owners of the 800RE about how they are getting on with the OEM Dunlop 614s tyres.

I have found them excellent over nearly 6k miles, and they are just squaring off, so who would use them again?

Cheers

I've only got 1400 miles on mine but they seem to be a decent tyre. They've been OK in the dry & in the wet. Wear isn't noticeable yet.

The tyres that are fitted to new bikes are built down to a price. Although they have the same name and tread pattern they will be nowhere near as good as a customer bought replacement. It sounds counter intuative and apart from a few thousand pairs of tyres on new bike sales I have to wonder why the tyre manufacturers do it?  Oh  Hang on a minute....  A new  bike's tyres are for running-in and then they should be replaced with something decent. My 2013 Glee's Bridgstone tyres was awful and I replaced them PDQ with a pair of Michelins
I am not a knee down fast rider but even so the front tyre on my new 2014 Kawasaki 1000SX  fell off the cliff at 2750 miles and the bike became unrideable. I've never bought a Bridgestone since.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

I normally do a deal to have my Tyres swopped when new for Pilot roads but I did not bother this time.
The stock Tyres have been better than I thought they would be with just taking a little longer than Michelins to warm up.
Only used them in the damp and not full on rain so can not compare them with the excellent performance of the 5' or 6 pilots.
I will give them more miles to see how they perform when wearing down.
