Spark plug boot cover (cap) replacement
« on: December 15, 2023, 17:50:13 »
Happy Friday everyone. I started to take my wife's 2007 Vstrom 650 apart today to replace the 4 spark plugs and ran into an issue. The 2nd plug wire (rear top) I pulled, left the rubber spark plug cap down in the hole. I got it out but now I wonder if it needs to be replaced? The plug wire and long piece is fine, it's just the rubber seal that sits on top of the plug. The parts fiche shows 2 different part numbers and I'm not sure what the difference is. Based on the length of the hard piece on the spark plug wire I would guess item #18. What is the purpose of this piece and has anyone ever replaced it before? Does it just twist over the longer piece shown in my picture?

Thanks in advance.
