Chain and sprockets DL650 (2013)
« on: August 02, 2023, 09:02:01 »
Hi everyone

Can’t get the search function to work at the moment, so I was just wondering if most recommend going with OEM chain and sprockets or is there something more popular.

Cheers

Ian

A decent DID chain and JTS sprockets - that's what I used on my youngest sons 650 Strom and I use the same on my bikes

Yes    DID chain and JTS sprockets. I got a chain and sprocket set from M&P / EBAY  for my XJ600 for £78. Although, I did also have to buy a chain riveting tool which is £20 also from M&P
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

Not sure about the 650 but the rubber damped front sprocket was worth the extra couple of quid on the Vee, significant reduction in chain noise and it's what the Japanese usually fit from the factory. Just check your existing sizes as pattern parts suppliers have been known to have the wrong sizes on record. I tried a JT chain as it was vastly cheaper, it hasn't lasted as long as I might have hoped so I will revert to DID next time.

JT do the rubber cushioned front sprocket for the 650................
https://chainsandsprockets.co.uk/products/jtf520-rubber-cushioned-front-drive-motorcycle-sprocket-15-teeth-jtf-520-15-rb?b=Suzuki_DL650-A-V-Strom-ABS_07-16

Previously I have bought my chains & sprockets from this company, however for a long time now they seem to be 'sold out' of chains & rear sprockets. They have (or looks as though they have) the rubber cushioned front sprocket for the same price as the 'standard' one.

I've just changed from a rubber cushion front sprocket till a standard one and can't say I notice any difference but I am a little deaf!
Go with oe if the price is right otherwise any decent make will do fine. I would say if buying of Ebay etc try to get from a known seller, ie demon tweeks, m@p etc as there have been fake DID chains about.

Thanks everyone

Bike should be coming home in a couple of weeks, I’ll have a measure up and order.

How I know!!!

When I asked him about how many times he had adjusted the chain the reply was

“They are adjustable”

Ha ha

Cheers

Ian ,
The correct response to the answer "they are adjustable" is "so is the price"
Ho Hum

I have gone DID and used JT sprockets for years and had good  mileage from both :thumb:
