Anyone else have a problem with their exhaust valve?
I kept getting the FI light coming up on the dash, took it into the garage and they inform me its the exhaust valve that is stuck. They freed it up that time after charging for the use of their computer, but basically it's got "rusted" stuck so that the servo can't move it.
You can't grease or oil it as its the exhaust which will burn anything like that
DO I have to buy a new one or is there a simple trick to get it moving again?

Seems pearl asbo orange is faster after all....

Iirc you can get a plug that goes into the loom connector and fools the ecu.
Then leave the cable in place so it looks likes it's all connected.

The trick with Honda's is remove the control cable, as the actuator is remote, but you can't do that with the strom as it's mounted directly.

I take the end can off and blast the exhaust valve with some gt85 round the pivots. Once I took the cables and the motor off but it made no difference. Mine always sticks after the winter. I keep meaning to get a servo eliminator but it frees up after a few rides so I never do!  It would not be easy to remove the butterfly. There looks to be two screws holding the butterfly onto the shaft, these need to be removed and you can bet they'll be stuck fast.
There have been some cases off the servo motor packing up also. Hope you get it sorted.

That's really annoying as that's exactly what I did on the ZX6R. Dropped the cables off the motor so the ECU believed it was performing the range check, then wired the valve open (it was naturally open anyway).

Its naturally open on the vstrom also so perhaps your method would work, I never tried that.  I'll see next weekend if it sticks again as I've  not started the bike from Nov last!

I've just ordered the exhaust servo eliminator, I'm fed up with the valve getting stuck and the FI and engine light staying on.
According to the write up the valve is only there to give more torque at lower rev's, something I don't think a 1000cc V-Twin really needs.

Not on a v strom ,but exup on my gen 1 fazer used to stick.Once I had freed it off I got in the habit of spraying wd40 into the exup cowl everytime I put it in the garage.Never stuck for the next 77000 miles,also the pulley the cables run in can rust ruining the cables,wd40 again did the job

As an aside does the strom have a air injection system to burn off unburnt fuel.When the exhaust valve on my gen 2 fazer[yes I've had both gens ,to avoid confusion] was removed with change of end can it would pop on overrun.part of the valves job was to close on a shut throttle so you couldn't hear the pops.this was cured by blocking the air feed in the air box,sort of worked, then turning it off when ecu was reflashed,better but never completely stopped the pop.Do any of you who have removed/bypassed valve get any popping on overrun?

I will let you know once I have the eliminator on place, I doubt it will pop but who knows

If you have the standard  can should  be OK. It's  a more open can that tends to pop

  “ Nigel”   The earlier Wee bikes had an air injection system called “P.A.I.R” that worked when on the over-run, but the next generation “Glee” models don’t,I don’t know if any other versions did or not.
