Looking at a 2014 DL650. Is it easy to get parts in the UK?
« on: November 12, 2022, 23:48:38 »
I am looking at picking up a 650. I put a reservation on it and am trying to get a test ride tomorrow (Sunday) or Monday.

I was just wondering how easy it is to get parts in the UK.

The bike I am looking at does not have any hand guards so I did a quick search on ebay, expecting a bunch of aftermarket stuff to come up, but nothing but folk's old oem ones appeared.

Since the Vstrom is so popular, I assume there is a ton of aftermarket stuff and I would expect a whole bunch of spares for repairs.

Thanks in advance and hopefully I'll be posting about my new Wee soon.

Which year model are you getting?
Brakbusters (https://chainspeed.co.uk/Suzuki-DL650-v-strom/ ) or similar might do something for you.
There's plenty of aftermarket suppliers for the V-Strom. Recommended suppliers section and Member's Benefits section will link to a few

If only you'd put it in the title...   lol

Good luck finding handguards  :thumb:

Cosmo Accessories and Cymarc Bike Parts have a good accessories selection. Bigpie fuse box is also good for any wiring you need to do (search the site for bigpie)

When out on your test ride, I suggest that you do remember to test the ABS braking function.  There have been a couple of reports on ABS failure due to improper / lack of maintenance, etc.
When the ABS activates you should feel a pulsing on the lever / peddle when lock up individual or both front and rear brakes.  This is a sign that the ABS is functioning correctly as the ABS system operates and releases (pulses) during brake lockup.
You may find that the front brakes are more difficult to lock up on pavement than the rear, so perhaps you could find some dirt or gravel for the front abs test.

In answer to your question, yes it is easy to get parts in the UK. There are and have been so many around over the years that even if used parts are your thing parts are always available, not that you are likely to need anything other than service parts. Enjoy.  :thumb:

It's a brave man who will test front abs on gravel during a test ride.

I went for a test ride today. Loved the bike. Handles really well. Enough get up and go for me and it cruises at motorway speeds nicely. I will need to look at a taller screen though. And, sadly no, I did not test the ABS. Something about locking the brakes on a test ride in London did not sit right with me.

I pick it up on Friday!
