A loose cam chain at low mileage suggest either a defective tensioner or guide .

 :text-goodpost:

As our Larndon Boi points out either a guide or tensioner fault. Possibly something wasn't assembled correctly?

if that's true, I'm very disappointed with the Suzuki v-twin 650 motorcycle  :bawl:. Because this "ticking" sound appears on most v-twin 650 Suzuki products (from 2017) after the first (600 miles) or second (4000 miles) oil change...

Agree with kwackboy there is definitely something there, and most likely sounds like chain slap to me ...

I have a 2017 650 with around 13k miles on it, Ill dig it out the garage and have a listen tonight.

Hi, jabmotorsport,

It would be great, if you could record the idling of your DL650 motorcycle at operating temperature. The sound is better heard from the top or right side.

....of course I am usually wrong, if they all sound like that it's probably nothing at all to worry about.

Engineering tolerances are required, the original TL1000 engine made such a racket with scissor gears, timing chains, piston slap and valve clearances. The TL part of the name stood for "Ticks Loudly".

Of course, we could all be wrong ....

If so ... Wear ear plugs, works wonders on those random rattles .  :icon_wink:

I think they all have that noise at idle. Some seem to be noisier than others. If you took it to a main dealer they would probably say it's normal.
If it were mine I wouldn't worry about it.
