Travelling to France
« on: September 18, 2022, 19:04:36 »
Hi we will be driving to France in October for the first time since we came out of Europe just wondered if it is only the UK sticker we need for the car or do we also need UK number plate stickers as well ?

Copied from this RAC website. There's a bit more on there if you fancy a read...............
https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/travel/country/France/

"Do I need a GB or UK sticker for driving in France?
From 28th September 2021, the distinguishing mark (or national identifier) displayed on vehicles registered in the United Kingdom that are driven abroad will change from GB to UK.

This means that vehicles registered in the UK must display the letters “UK” when driven in France.

The identifier can be incorporated in vehicle number plates (along with the Union Flag) or as a separate sticker. Note that vehicles featuring the letters GB together with the Council of Europe golden stars are no longer valid for driving abroad.

If your vehicle does not have the UK identifier within the number plate, you will require a UK sticker when driving in France. GB stickers will no longer be valid from the end of September."

I was back in the UK (England) last week visiting folk in Essex Asmith61! In the queues at the port were mainly GB's on plates unchanged from membership days. Some had slapped large UK signs on their boots, most uncaring and ugly.

I must say that the regular number plate letters with Euro stars or country flags seems the most reasonable for all vehicles generally. If you can put the change on your number plate with a flag then fine.  :icon_wink:
So how's it going so far then?

Thank you Mick I will take a look  :thumb:
And also thank you joe we were thinking of a magnetic UK sticker so it can be easily removed and also small UK stickers to go on to the number plates?

Hope you had a good time back in Essex joe  :thumb:

I have a magnetic UK sticker for the car as it's old enough not to have room on the plates for stickers. I have the small number plate style for the bike. Been to Europe 4 times this year and never an issue with just 1 or the other.
Enjoy your trip either way, I'll be back in January myself.

Just come back. Mixed variety of stickers.

Most cars have a large oval UK sticker. Some bikes too, but most had a small sticker on the reg plate.

No-one seemed at all interested.

I think I may have been the only vehicle on the Ijmuiden ferry to have a UK sticker fitted. Most had GB's or nothing and no one seemed to be bothered. Mind you why give the plod an excuse to pull you over for a few quid ?

Enjoy the trip  :thumb:
