Clutch issue….maybe.
« on: September 24, 2022, 15:30:32 »
Got on my 2020 650DL today and the clutch lever felt ‘ different”

There is slack in the cable adjuster when the lever is out but it does not fully come back to the bars, about 4 mm of gap between the lever and the bars at full pull.

Clutch disengages and engages OK but the feel is that the travel is somehow being restricted. Clutch bites at about 1/3rd out.

It may just be me but before I check absolutely everything is there any known issue like this on the 650?

I have ordered a manual that goes up to 2019 hoping that the most important things are still the same for a 2020 bike.

8500 miles.

TIA.

I'll get the daft question out of the way first - have you got heated grips, and has the left grip rotated to stop you pulling the lever fully back?

OBE for Rusty Nuts.

Exactly what was the cause. The grip was hard to rotate so how it did I don’t know but that’s what had happened. The cheapest fix ever😀

Just disappointed in myself for not thinking about it. Obvious when I looked harder.

Thanks RN👍👍👍👌👌

I only thought of that because my glee did the same.

That’s the beauty of this forum. Someone else has suffered the pain before 😀😀

How did you manage to move it back to the proper position, I thought they were superglued on?

I reckon the heat of the grip coupled with the possible unintentional torque of the hand weakens the glue's grip over time.

Thinking about it, it happened when the grips were on. Something to watch in future.
