Exhaust clamps replacement
« on: September 19, 2022, 15:40:18 »
Hi. Is exhaust clamps replacement posible without disconnecting pipes? I am wondering are those clamps open to slide them over pipes?

I replaced my front one without removing the exhaust after it corroded through. It was a side opening one. (45mm if I remember correctly)

I used Mikalor W4 rated full stainless clamps and they can be opened fully to slip round the pipe front or rear.

Are the 650 and 1000 the same diameter? I have a spare, if they are.

I replaced ours yesterday, a Mikalor version, 45mm dia (DL650) it unscrews completely so you don't have to split the exhaust.

The old one had cracked apart near the bolt head, it required a bit of force to remove it because there were two 3mm wide welding lugs sticking out from bottom of exhaust which went through a couple of holes in the clamp, never seen that before.
Used a pair of plumbing pliers to squeeze the lugs flat then fitted new clamp, !5 mins tops.

The flanged section of the downpipes both front and rear is 57mm OD on my Vee, I used the 55-59mm clamps and they pull down tight but towards the fully closed range.
