Lowering a 1050
« on: August 28, 2022, 13:31:31 »
I was riding with a friend today who really liked the look of my 1050.
However he is quite short and would need to lower it somehow.
I tried to search for lowered 1050s but responses were about lowering the footpegs rather than the bike.
Can a 1050 be lowered much and, with the low seat, what sort of seat height would it have?
Thanks.

We've just had some Lust Racing 25mm extended 'dog bones' fitted to the DL650 (2006) which lowered the bike an inch. Both feet now flat on the floor when needed.

Another way to lower the bike is to remove, carefully, the rubber cushion blocks from under the seat which gives at least another inch.

Looking at this... http://www.lustracing.co.uk/suspension/Suzuki-DL1000-v-strom-lowering-kits.html on the 1050 model you replace the triangular plates under rear suspension with a variety of results

The 1040 seat is completely different, so that wouldn't work. I think Suzuki do a lower seat for it, so you could try asking the dealer to swap the stock seat out for the lower one as part of the deal. And I highly suspect that the DL1000 dog bone kits would fit the 1050, though a cross-check on part numbers/with stockists would be wise.

Have you considered raising the fork tubes similar as discussed in https://www.v-strom.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=36477.0 ?

Hi, I've just fitted the lower seat to my 1050xt it brings the seat height down 25mm it doesn't sound much but it gives me a lot more confidence on slow riding and paddling the bike round on garage forecourts etc and somehow its a more comfortable seat.

Thank you to everyone. Having looked into what’s available it looks like a 1050 is off the short list as it can’t be lowered enough.
