my 2022 650 vstrom won't rev past 3500
« on: June 04, 2022, 10:54:07 »
my 2022 650vstrom has an annoying intermittent fault, every now and then when pulling away from a
standstill mybike will not rev above 3500 rpm. after about 100meters it starts to run normally and the fault doesn't happen again during the rest of the ride.as the bike is new I've taken it back to the dealer who as usual can't find any problems, no fault code therefore no fault!any advice would be really helpful  thanks

Yes ... leave it with the dealer until they find the fault and don't take no for an answer.

Or throw the consumer regulations at the dealer - item is not fit fit purpose etc., and demand a replacement bike.
If you do leave it with the dealer, make sure they 'loan; you a similar model until yours is fixed.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space...

Is there any way you could rig up a go pro or similar to record the event?
That way you would have :
A. Incontrovertible proof of it occurring to show the dealer
B. A guarantee that it will definitely never ever happen again (at least while the camera is recording)
In the words of Rob Hunter of the Grateful Dead:
"what a long strange trip it's been"

The camera idea makes a lot of sense.
Once you've got the evidence, do as suggested above.
I think you'd be within your rights to reject the vehicle and deliver it back to the dealer and demand a refund. I don't know how finance etc would complicate this.
But as I understand it your contract is with the supplying dealer but it might not hurt trying to involve Suzuki GB.
I also think any refund would reflect your use of the vehicle to date, condition, mileage etc.
Good luck, I think you're going to need to be persistent or a PITA.

Does this reported problem appear to take place on each one of the traction control settings?
What is the engine temp when the rpm limiting takes place?

hi gert I thought at first it might be a problem with the traction control system so I turned it off no change ! as for temperature it only seems to happen when the motor is not stone cold after I have ridden the bike for about 20 miles and left it parked for 45mins so not hot or cold and it might be a coincedence bit it only seem to happen when I have left the bike on the side stand it always lives on the center stand when parked at home and doesn't display the prodlem then

I seem to have found a way to get the bike to rev past 3500 . when I first started the bike and it was reving away at 2000 rpm before I rode away I took the revs up to 4000 in neutral a couple of times and when I closed the throttle the revs had dropped to the normal tickover speed of 1400rpm go figure! when I rode off the bike behaved as it should maybe this has sorted the problem or maybe as the fault was intermitent it was just lulling me into a false sense of security .we shall see. before I forget I found that the throttle had no slack in the cable so I adjusted it to give 4mm of freeplay maybe that has helped
