Fork Seals DL650 AL2
« on: April 26, 2022, 16:36:39 »
Hi, The fork seals on my AL2 are shot and need to be replaced, they are the originals. From your experiences what parts should be replaced? I'm hoping that it's just the seals themselves, but thinking that items 4,5,6,7 on the parts diagram might be needed. Is it best to fit OEM parts? I've found a company called Brook Suspension that sell seals made by NOK, and they claim that these are what are supplied to, and fitted by Suzuki. Any help with tips, suppliers, fork oil type etc would be helpful.

Hi Paulo. I had a garage replace the fork seals on a 650 BMW some time ago. I asked if I should get OEM seals but he told me he uses after market that are at least as good, so he did.
A few weeks later I hit a sizable pot hole (full of water so I didn't see it) and the seals blew again. whether OEM seals would have done or not I don't know but I did wish I had them fitted at the time. I've sold that bike now, I told the new owner the seals needed replacing but I have no idea what he fitted.

I'm sure one of the clever, more knowledgeable members will be along soon with a better answer. Good luck with it.   :thumb:

Depending on your mileage you may need to replace the internal upper and lower bushes but in most cases just a seal, dust cover and fork oil change will be OK.

Nothing wrong with aftermarket seals, as long as they are decent.

When I changed my fork seals I used aftermarket and I had thought I'd bought decent aftermarket seals (I think they were from Pyramid), but ended up having to change them again a year later as they were leaking. Fitted OEM that time and haven't had to change them since (I that think it was 2017-ish?).

Thanks for your help everyone, very useful indeed. I'm not planning on keeping the bike much longer, so not going for 'Suzuki' parts. I've attached screenshots of what I'm planning to order. The dust seals spec says 2004-2011, but the measurements match the oil seals spec 2004-2018. Can anyone confirm that the spec. measurements are correct and that the oil and dust seals match. My bike is a 2012 model. Thanks in advance.
