Revs not dropping immediately to idle.
« on: November 14, 2021, 19:18:10 »
Hi all,
Having got my first strom, two weeks ago, the sevice book had a stamp for 01/07/2021.
Not surprisingly, air filter, oil and filter, spark plugs, clutch & brake fluids etc. had not been touched.
I've now done all this, and also used ACF-50, and used the Cymarc kit for lowering the footpegs and the gear change enhancer.
Needless to say, it now feels like a completely different bike, but the revs hover at about 2000rpm before dropping to 1200/1300rpm after about 5 seconds. Is this normal? The throttle rolls off completely.
Thanks in advance.

Did your bike have the same symptoms before..? If not, re-check what you've done.

I'm guessing you mat have an air leak ..

Thanks, I'll double check my work, tomorrow. Would that only be on the air intake side?
I didn't really notice if there was an issue before, as I rode home and have not used it until completing this work.
I do have a small leak where the right hand exhaust muffler meets the gasket, which I'll be getting to this week.

If the bike engine is cold, then it could the cold start function, which normal operation. However if this happens on a warm engine, then you may have a sticky throttle cable / throttle linkage or a handlebar weight jamming the throttle tube rotation.  Note that the throttle cable does not require lube, due to the special coating on the inside the throttle cable.  https://www.v-strom.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=32362.0 is a discussion on the Vee but could apply to the Wee.

We seem to have a different bike, but on my 2012 Glee I recently noticed the revs going up to 2000 for maybe 5 to 15 seconds before dropping to the regular 1300 (give or take a 100). It has started doing this since the air temperatures dropped to below maybe 12°C. Throttle is nice and "loose". I assume this is just the low temp behaviour that's programmed into it?

@ Lemonwizard Yes I think they all do that now. At start up my KTM 390 runs 2000 rpm for a while. I am guessing this is to get the catalytic converter up to working temperature to reduce pollution levels.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.
