Stock iridium plugs?
« on: July 06, 2021, 22:34:24 »
Does the 1050 come with iridium plugs from factory?

Should the next plugs I buy for it be iridium, it it doesn't matter?

Yes they are iridium plugs from the factory. The 2014 on vstrom's use a different plug than the older stroms or the 650 and as far as I know are iridium only.  They are expensive plugs, over £20 each from a dealer but you can half that if you shop around. I change mine every 15k miles as manual says to but they looked fine, current set will stay in for 20k.

They only need replacing after 15000 miles while the previous model up to 2019 were replaced at 7500 miles

£20 per plug for genuine...

2 years ago I paid £28 per plug after doing a load of cross reference and searching.
The Varadero (2003>) only had 2 options. NGK or NGK in a red Honda box. Both expensive!

So are you saying that after 2019, Suzuki changed the official plug change interval to the 15,000 mile  service ?

So if iridium can hold 50.000 miles, then why will Suzuki change them after 15.000?

If I remember genuine ones where £23 each from my dealer but that was in 2017 and remender you need 4. Got the next set from M&P for a tenner each.
My manual says 2 years or 15000 miles for the plug change on my 2014 model. I left them to 15k and they looked fine but as you need to remove the radiator to change the front plug and the tank for the rear I change everything while I'm in there. At 30k miles I set all the valves to mid settings plus new plugs so I'm not looking again till the 50k mark.

The iridium plugs in one of my old twin spark Alfas weren't due a change until 100k: it's purely cash grabbing to say they need done at 15k.

Like most things, 15k-50k-100k plug life is probably a bit of all the things mentioned.
The most common symptom of worn plugs is a hesitancy when you open the throttle. Not too much of an issue with the Wee, but new plugs in my 954 Fireblade with 30k on the clock has made a big difference to starting and eliminating the hesitancy. It still tosses its head when the beans are applied but its instant. I found my Wee's starting issues were all down to the light/starter cut out contacts BTW.

I changed my plugs at 7300 miles on my 1000 [AL8], I’ve kept them because they were in excellent shape. At the time I was changing the coolant / rad off etc and trying to pin point another issue so thought I might as well.
Found a good deal at this U.K. supplier

Sorry but that isn't the correct plug for a 2014 on vstrom 1000, older model yes.

Thanks Porter - my saved link has been changed by the site….
This is the correct plug for an AL8 1000 (it’s actually cheaper)

Cheers Stormy for that link, I don't need any plugs for the vstrom but I did get a cheap set for my wee Suzuki not so swift. Cheers
