Why didn't you use the red kill switch? Did that not work?

If engine keeps running it must be in the ignition switch..........unless I didn't get the punctuation right.
So how's it going so far then?

Would it be easier to stop it by using the sidestand switch? ( can't help with the fault, though. Sorry.)

Both side stand and kill switch do turn the bike off but ignition lights and headlights stay on can start bike without key

TLPower had a similar issue with The Nail in Pateley Bridge. He may be able to help if he sees this.

Sounds like water has either got into the bottom of your ignition creating a short or the loom plug.

Spray both with a contact cleaner or WD40

Ahhh The Nail. lol

I traced that particular trait back to the ignition relay (a high quality Ducati sourced piece of shite)sticking in the "on" position.

Basically the coils were receiving 12+ volts all the time. Grab your multimeter, find your coils and work your way back to the ignition switch. Or you may be lucky and find your ignition switch is indeed the culprit.

To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

There was a recall for dodgy wiring on the 1000s. There were 3 issues, engine earth lead, wires chaffing under the tank and water getting into some connectors under the tank:
https://blog.motorcycle.com/2016/01/11/manufacturers/Suzuki/Suzuki-v-strom-1000-recalled-for-three-separate-electrical-issues/
The last one would cause your problem.
The dealer I bought mine from did the recall and charged Suzuki for a new wiring loom. Another dealer discovered NOTHING had been done!

The weather wasn't an issue when my 'bike displayed the same symptoms, it was dry. The coils and fuel pump presumably will both be receiving power despite the feed being turned off. Try pulling the relays and check from there.

It would be unusual for all the switches (ignition, clutch and side stand) to all fail in the closed position.

Sounds like the main connection under the tank but if you've already looked at that then maybe not. My bike done this after a long wet 200mile ride, stopped at the B&B, switch key off but the bike kept going. Owner put the bike on his garage and all was OK the next morning. That was home day anyway and the tank was removed the next day, every connector cleaned and covered with bicycle inner tubes, no trouble since. I've also had earth lead troubles but that's a no start not a no stop issue. Good luck with finding it.

I think you need to upload the video to something like YouTube and then add the link.

Sounds like water has either got into the bottom of your ignition creating a short or the loom plug.

Spray both with a contact cleaner or WD40

Did you not try our resident mechanic's advice before changing parts? Definitely spray both with WD40/contact cleaner and ensure all plugs have some form of weather protection e.g. cover them in old inner tube to help keep water out.

I would suggest either a multimeter or a test light to see where the solenoid is receiving it's  "rogue" power from. As I said before the coils and fuel pump are receiving power that is bypassing the safety cutouts.
